Do Save the Dates and Invitations have to match ?

Future Mrs.P, on February 16, 2016 at 12:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 28

I finally decided on my invites , which is a huge splurge for us . (pic below) I still haven't found any save the dates I like and I'm so over it. I feel like going to Hobby Lobby and just getting cheap ones and calling it a day. My FH tells me just now they have to match the invites. Yea OK like he really knows anything about wedding stationery. But I don't want it to look tacky if I get a cheaper non-matching save the date . So, I emailed the company that is doing our wedding invites and they stated the STD's start at $6.00 ea . Oh my not going to happen , not today!

Add - On : I did google and find a tutorial on how to do the foil stamped. I don't know if I want to take on this project to save a few coins. I'm only sending approximately 23 save the dates to my family and friends only.

Ehhh... Im going to say no... But I may be the minority lol. I can't imagine anyone would really care when they got them in the mail.

    I didn't do STDs

$6. each is a lot of money! I don't know if thats standard..but that is definitely going to add up

First - your wedding invitations are gorgeous! I love them!

Second - no the STDs and the invites don't have to match. I think it's nice when they are in the same color palette and general style as your invites, but save the dates can be much more casual!

They don't have to match, it's entirely up to you! There's no rule about it.

I don't think I have seen STD's that match the invites perfectly. Most of the STDs I've received are photos of the couple with the date and the invites are sans photos. I designed a simple STD we are going to email to everyone except our grandparents and those that don't have email, we are going to print them at home and mail them.

First, STDs are not required. Second, they don't have to match anything. Many people send STDs before deciding on invitation suites, and in my experience STDs tend to be pretty casual, often with a photo of the couple.

I know I did it a$$ backwards by picking the invitations first. I seriously need to send these STD's out like yesterday .

Mine didn't match. My STDs were magnets with grey, red, tan and light blue (not sure what I was thinking at the time). My invitations were black and grey. I don't think it matters, nor do I ever notice if any matches. Plus if the STD is not a magnet I put the information in my phone and throw out the STD right away. I'm not keeping that on my cluttered board for months.

Mine didn't match. Also, I love how you said you "finally" picked invites, haha I didn't choose invites till like 3 weeks before they needed to go out! You're on top of it!

Mine don't match at all haha! They are completely opposite. My save the dates where white, and my invites are rustic/brown. I couldn't find any that I liked, that were similar to my save the dates. My thought process....they will prob end up in the trash anyway. Buy what you like and do what you want, it's your wedding day!

I do not believe they have to match....some people match theirs.. but I say this is ur day....who cares what they think...the STD are fun and are only a reminder....call me cheap but I wanted to spend more on my wedding directly so I went to staples and designed my own and they came out great....got 200 for $45...

Your invitation suite is beautiful! LOVE! I'm splurging on invitations as well...bigtime. And my STD's were much more casual/fun. We did snowy pictures and made them into postcard-sized magnets. They were cute and affordable, but in no way match our invitation suite.

I used Minted and LOVED them. We skipped the proof and from the moment to order to the moment they were on my door was seriously like 4 days. Minted also does free addressing if you already have your guest list totally set - sounds like you do.

A quick save the date search on Minted, and I found these - they look kind of similar to your invites and are gold. They are magnets, but of course Minted has non-magnets...I just love the magnets so much! They're $2.58 each.

Mine don't necessarily match. It you like them get them! I ordered my STDs from vistaprint and used a coupon from retail me not. They were around 35 cents each. The invites are a gift so I can't be picky with those.

I don't think they have to match. TBH, I keep the save-the-date on the fridge til I get the invitation...then the STD goes bye-bye. Lots of brides aren't doing official STDs too--since you're splurging on the invites (which are gorgeous btw) why not skip STDs?
