Do Most Prefer Beef or Fish

We're having a plated dinner and trying to narrow down on menu selections. We plan to have two main entree selections and a vegetarian option for anyone who needs it. We've pretty much decided to go with a chicken entree as one option. For the second, we're torn between a beef option or a fish option. Choices for beef would be filet, ny strip, or prime rib and choices for seafood are norwegian salmon w/ asian orange ginger sauce or grilled salmon wrapped in parchment w/julienned vegetables.

If you're one of those that would select something else besides chicken or vegetarian, would you prefer a beef entree or seafood (salmon)?

EDITED: To correct typo.

I should have also mentioned we have the option to do a duet plate of

DUO OPTION

Sliced beef tenderloin, roasted shallot & mushroom, rich marsala wine sauce and

pinwheels of chicken florentine.

Should we just do this and call it a day? No second entree option which would mean no need to select an entree on the RSVP.

You definitely need more than one option....I would go for salmon but that probably wouldnt be the majority.

We actually offered filet mignon, salmon, and vegetarian as our options. Of 75 guests, 50 chose the beef.

Personally, I would choose the seafood option over the beef depending on what exactly was being offered for the beef and seafood because I like both and would choose whichever fish or cut of meat sounded better to me. I'd prefer either one over the chicken, though.

I'd prefer beef and fish personally. Just because some people don't eat fish doesn't mean others shouldn't have the option

I'm really picky...I don't like beef or fish. But if I had to choose between the two, I'd choose beef Smiley tongue

I would do the duo or beef. I love fish, but salmon to me is just a no.

From our guest list - we had 90 people pick Prime Rib, 52 pick Salmon, and 30 pick Chicken.

Personally I'd choose the salmon, but I think a lot of people go for red meat!

Wow, Lynnie and my statistics are almost identical. How interesting and telling.

    Lynnies are as follows:

    52% beef

    30% salmon

    17% chicken

We thought chicken because typically everybody eats chicken. In fact, my FMIL only eats chicken and refuses to even try anything else. From this thread though, I'm actually leaning towards scratching the chicken altogether and going with beef, salmon, and vegetarian as our options. Thanks for the feedback!

I think beef is the safer, more popular option.

However, it is a "know your audience" thing. My venue actually only offered duo entrees. There were six things, we picked two and everything got the same plate, except the few vegetarians and children. We went with filet mignon and grilled shrimp. BUT we knew none of our guests have seafood allergies, all ate red meat, etc. (advantage of having a smaller guest list Smiley smile

100% beef. The smell of seafood makes me gag and I hate everything about it (and I grew up on Cape Cod...).

I always cringe when weddings offer seafood because I know I'll be smelling it all night (no one else's problem but mine though).

Id choose beef over chicken and fish. Salmon is good if you have vegetarians, but I think most people choose beef. The combo option is good. Too bad they can't do a surf n turf with beef and salmon. Is that an option?

Filet, NY Strip, Prime Rib, all of those sound good, the salmon sounds delicious and I love salmon but as far as menu I usually only go for the fish when chicken is the other option, otherwise I am team beef.

I really like your inclination to scrap the chicken and offer beef and salmon. That way there is a lighter and a heavier option for your guests, and I highly doubt anyone will really miss the chicken.

Oh, and to answer the original question: I would generally pick fish over beef, but in a banquet food situation I would go for beef over salmon. #nothelpful
