Do you really save money by doing DIY invitations? Is it worth it? I know it will be time consuming but I have seen such cute ideas that I have been thinking of doing this. Do you really save money by doing DIY invitations? Is it worth it? I know it will be time consuming but I have seen such cute ideas that I have been thinking of doing this. I am just concerned that I may spend more on DIY than if I just actually ordered invites. I also fear my DIY may look cheap. I don't want that. I am so on the fence, Any advice from those of you who have done DIY invites? Pros? Cons? Thank you!

I got my invites from cardsandpockets.com. I used their template to design it myself and then ordered a kit. It ended up being hundreds less and the look gorgeous. I got 100 invites, mats, 3 insert cards ( directions, RSVP and hotel) and all envelopes for only about $500. I could not be happier.

Make sure you include ALL needed info. How many times have we seen posts on here where the bride is mourning the fact that she forgot to include the time or the address of the ceremony, etc.

Be sure to use proper wording for your type of wedding (in a place of worship or not).

Make sure you know how size, shape, thickness, and weight will affect postage costs.

The pros make it look simple -- it is not simple.

@NancyT thank you! I had not even thought of the postage costs varying for the different type of invites.

I did Vistaprint for my STDs and my invitations and it was so worth it! I just kept my eyes peeled for when they had good sales.

We saved A LOT of money by designing and crafting our own invitations. I designed the invitation using Microsoft Powerpoint and arranging the images and fonts, then took a screenshot while in full screen mode. We purchased doilies off amazon and ribbon at Walmart! We also saved SO much by printing on 4x6 instead of 5x7, using photo paper instead of cardstock. Here's a pic!

ETA: Printing costed $.09 a piece for 4x6 photo paper, much better than $.69-$1.47 for 5x7 at Walmart!

I plan to design the invitations, not so much to save on cost (although, that is a big plus) but to be able to create exactly what I have in my head. I did this w the save the dates and loved it. Still need to find a place to print them. Want to do this locally if possible, but def open to the online options.

I saved a lot by making my own. I used www.wovow.co.uk for everything. It does take longer than you think but it's definitely worth it.
