do it yourself wedding invitations

Megan, on June 16, 2017 at 1:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 29

Do you really save money by doing DIY invitations? Is it worth it? I know it will be time consuming but I have seen such cute ideas that I have been thinking of doing this. I am just concerned that I may spend more on DIY than if I just actually ordered invites. I also fear my DIY may look cheap. I don't want that. I am so on the fence, Any advice from those of you who have done DIY invites? Pros? Cons? Thank you!

I'm a pretty crafty person, but after I did some research I found that DIY invitations were going to cost me more and probably wouldn't look as professional.

If you're looking to save some $$, I would recommend Vistaprint, I've used them for work events and they always turn out great. They often have 50% off sales too!

It depends. If you're going for a simple look, you can DIY the design on your computer, get it printed and cut for like $20-$30 and buy some envelopes and postage and it could turn out cheaper and look great in your eyes.

Thanks for the feed back! Our wedding is rustic themed so I want invitations to go along with that. That is how I started looking into DIY online and youtube. I may just order some. I really don't want to mess them up and then end up spending double to order anyways.

I guess it depends what you mean by DIY. Which do you mean:

-Go on Etsy, purchase a design (I think our STD's were $15), they will customize it with your name/date/location, and then print from Vistaprint. Easy and affordable.

    or

-Print out things yourself, glue things, cut things, nope nope nope.

I lucked out when it came to invites. Hobby lobby had gorgeous ones for 90% off so I snagged them.

    I didn't read any comments-Sorry

I ordered POST CARDS from Vista Print! They look better than invitations would of and I saved almost $100. I found envelopes that fit my post cards on Amazon. I love LOVE them. Best decision ever. I took ideas from other invitations to make mine and designed them with a blank canvas on Picmonkey.

Yes! My invitations we from hobby lobby $10 for a pack of 25. I was able to customize everything on my invites/enclosure cards. I'm so glad I went the diy route on invitations!

I am going to check out some places. I really want to DIY my invites. Meaning printing at home or staples and then adding extras and so forth. My worry is messing up, lol. But I am going to just compare time and price and see which will end up working better. There is just so many cute ideas I have seen that I would really like to do if the cost is not too much. Thanks ladies for all your advice!

Vista print is truly the only way to go if your looking to cut costs on DYI....unless your just printing them out in your own card stock, and cutting yourself. We got 100 invites w/envelopes for like $29 on Vista print

Looking at it now, my husband and I both agree that we wasted a whole lot of money on invitations. We only sent invitations to less than 50 households and even then, we spent over $200 on invitations. Honestly, I wish we could've just gone the DIY route with the invitations. I'm a pre-k teacher and I recently came across a website called greetingsisland.com and they have some fantastic free (or very affordable) editable, printable invitation templates. You just buy the kind of paper you want and print. I wish I knew about the website before lol.

My FSIL did hers using cards and pockets and they looked amazing! She added her own special touch (ribbon & lace). She is helping me with mine to achieve a design I want. I ordered samples and we will work on them on my vacation. I refuse to spend that much on stationary that only few will keep and there's other resourceful options. Best of luck!
