Do i wear my engagement ring during the ceremony?

LaChaun, on June 21, 2013 at 3:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Hi ladies. i have a question. i have my engagement ring already. i have heard people say that the wedding band is supposed to be on first then the ring. ( your supposed to keep the band close to your heart ) is this true? if so do i not wear it during the ceremony? I love my ring! or do i take it off and put it back on after he puts the band on? help!

Wear it on your right hand, then switch it over later Smiley smile

    There are 3 options.

    1) Don't wear it at all during the ceremony. Put it on afterwards

    2) Wear it on your right hand. Switch it over to your left hand after the ceremony.

    3) Wear it on your left hand. After the ceremony switch the order of the rings.

I chose to do number 3. It helped me remember which hand to give DH during the ceremony to put the ring on lol

I had the same question… I absolutely want to wear my ring since it was my mom’s engagement ring diamond and was planning to use it as my something old. They only thing is my ring only fits my left hand! My right hand is my "fat" hand... Should I have it resized for the day of?

Sarina, I wouldn't recommend resizing it just for your ceremony. Besides the cost of it, it is also not good for the ring to be resized multiple times. If you want to wear it and can't wear it on your right hand, just wear it on your left.

I had my rings 'tacked' (what a dumb word!) before the ceremony, so my ering was already attached when he put the wedding ring on.

Ditto on zoe's post. mine is a set that will be welded together beforehand.

I have been wondering this as well~! My mom suggested the saudering idea of the rings.. I dont like that though, because there are times when I will want to wear just my band so as not be be to showy in the wrong place, or take a chance on something happening to it.. camping, vacations in poor countries etc etc. So i think I will just just put it in front and after the ceremony switch them.

I plan in wearing it and when FH puts the wedding ring on, I'll switch the order of the rings as soon as I can. I did it that way at my first wedding and it was fine.

I had mine soldered together also. He put the one ring on my finger at the wedding ceremony.

Great options. I think I will go with wear my engagement ring on the left and switch the order later. I may consider having them soldered later.
