Do I really need to wear a slip???

hlgig, on June 28, 2009 at 7:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

My wedding dress is a trumpet style with overlay of beadwork and a built-in corset. The bridal consultant at the store said I won't need a slip just spanx underneath, but I'm scared the dress will bunch up when I'm walking down the isle. Of course I don't want the dress to be bulky so I'm not sure what to do. Any thoughts?

I had a terrible experience on my wedding. I didnt' wear the underskirt 'cause i didn't want to make the dress too puffy. The day of the wedding i realized i was gonna have to kick my way down the altar. It was a mess. My recommendation to you is to go back to the store and try on the dress & walk around with it on for a while. See how you feel & go from there. I wish I would have.

    Good luck with everything!

Unless they have developed a new shape slip I would think it would be too bulky under a trumpet skirt. There should be some built in crinoline and lining in the bottom of the skirt already. Don't make the dress too tight and you shouldn't have a problem with it riding up. You should try it on and walk around in it - that should be enough to tell if it is going to ride up.

I don't know much about trumpet style dresses as I don't have any kind of body to be wearing mine, however with my dress I added a slip so that I wouldn't have to worry about getting the dress hemmed. The consultant knew that it was just a hair to long so she found the puffiest slip she could find.

Yes...you do. I have been in the wedding business for over 20 years as a bridal consultant and gown salesperson (also bridal florist). IN my experience the gown will only fall properly without bunching and with the proper swing at the hem WITH the right slip. There are trumpet style slips. If your consultant does not have a wholesale vendor for this style please allow me to provide one for you.

Even if you decide NOT to use our slip on your wedding day isn't it worth eliminating that on big stressor just on case?

I did not wear anything but a thong under my dress. You can see it in my profile, it's a fitted trumpet. It depends on the structure and fabric of the dress. So use your own judgment. Try it on, walk around the store and take some photos in it from different angles as you move.
