Do I not understand the concept of a troubadour?

Jenny, on February 25, 2016 at 12:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 39

My thought was that this was the person passing hors d'ouvres around. But I Googled it, and it's more like a wandering singing minstrel? Am I being too literal with the Google definition, because that seems odd to me (but not out of the realm of possibility given the funky nature of our venue). Has anyone else seen this? I'm sort of confused!

I have only ever heard the term troubadour used as Googled defined it.

The word you're looking for is "server."

Where did you see this word? Is it mentioned on the services offered from your venue? lol

Definitely a wandering, singing, minstrel in my mind Smiley laugh

Ok now I'm super curious as well, is this part of your venue package?

Omg I hope this means your venue includes an actual troubadour (someone with a guitar that will walk around singing about old time heroes and maidens). The one with the hors d'oeuvres is a server or waiter.

I've only ever actually heard the word troubadour used on Gilmore Girls when the two guys were fighting about who got to play guitar around town

It is actually a part of the venue package! (Seriously, you can't make this stuff up lol)

And I do know what a server is lol! Smiley smile it's not like I couldn't come up with the term...it was the given term from the vendor that had me wondering.

Celia, I agree! A little too cirque du soleil for my taste!

Yeah it sounds like they're offering a minstrel as service.

I'd ask them WTF they mean. I only said server as I hate the term waiter/waitress Smiley smile

Haha does your venue offer a troubadour in the package? That would be very interesting! I can't say I have seen this done in person, but neat idea!

ETA: I have never come across a venue offering a troubadour. Might be interesting at the right kind of wedding...

This makes me want to cancel my wedding and book one at your venue. How crazy!

S&P - Gilmore Girls taught me the word "troubadour," basically. Smiley smile did you see the later episode where the guy who won was discovered so all the troubadours came from all over the place and set up everywhere in town? It was incredible.

I wish I lived in Stars Hollow.

It's new, and if they have hors d'oeuvres, it's wrong.

The weirdest twist on servers I have ever seen is strolling canape tables with a waitress in the middle, surrounded by a rigid skirt covered with tid bits. The poor girl looked mortified and the guests were hysterical. Not in a good way.

We have a local restaurant with a wandering troubadour. It's quite terrible, actually.

Though I really have to share--my highlight is that he wandered over to the couple behind us and I heard him asking if he could serenade their baby, and the woman was repeatedly telling him "no, thank you" and getting more forceful about it until finally he, a little irately, got up and left. A few minutes later I took a peek behind me because I just had to see---and they didn't have a baby with them. She was pregnant. He wanted to serenade her stomach. We haven't been back.

Oh Celia I've seen that. Works better with models and booze. I have picked many a glass of sparkling off a model's giant metal hoop skirt. (Big company, weird Xmas parties)
