Do I need a Trial Run for Makeup?

My budget for make-up and hair was $300. I decide I would add my MOH but then thought I should also add my mom. I found out it would be cheaper to add one more person so i added my brothers wife. The total is $385 for all of us; plus tip ( I was thinking $100 from all of us). This puts me $185 over...

The total is $385 for all of us; plus tip ( I was thinking $100 from all of us). This puts me $185 over budget. The trial is $150.00 This is way over budget. I never wear make-up so I don't even know what looks good on me. Would the make-up artist be able make me beautiful (lack of another term) without it or is this required?

I say yes to the trial mainly to get an idea and to even see if you like this person's work. But if the price is what is getting to you than look around for a different artists. I personally think $150 just for the trial sounds outragious. My actual makeup session was 125 with airbrush and that included the trial run. Most MUA included the trial with their price. So if i were you i would look around some more.

I know some people say airbrush is best, but it really depends on how it interacts with your skin. Wherever you go, try different types of foundation (liquid, powder, etc.) and make sure they use moisturizer if they use powder. I think if you figure this out, you've gotten over the biggest hurdle!

MAC will do your makeup if you purchase $50 worth of products. You can schedule and appointment as your "trial". Take photos of yourself with the makeup if you like it and then show it to your MUA and have her replicate it.

If you don't wear makeup, it may be a good idea to do a trial run. However, if you know that your makeup artist is good and have seen their work via friends etc, you can bypass it. While getting your makeup done at a counter first will help you get used to the idea of how you will look with makeup on, it will not help you determine whether your hired makeup artist will do a good job on the day of. Good luck!

    In one simple word, no.

Here is a blog post I wrote that goes into further detail.
