I've been torn on whether or not to invite my MIL dress shopping. My fiancee is her only child and there are moments when I can tell she's excited to have a girl in her life. I want to invite her to include her, but we've also not had the best history. She's been pretty openly (negatively)...

I've been torn on whether or not to invite my MIL dress shopping. My fiancee is her only child and there are moments when I can tell she's excited to have a girl in her life. I want to invite her to include her, but we've also not had the best history. She's been pretty openly (negatively) opinionated towards our decisions as a couple and I'm not sure if I would want her opinions, per say, but I definitely want her to still feel included. What are your all's thoughts?

So I did not invite my FMIL even though we have a very good relationship (i know, I definitely got lucky there) because she has 2 daughters that she got to do this with in the past and I kind of want it to be special the day of when she sees me in it for the first time. But I did invite my grandmother and my aunt (neither of whom's opinions I really cared about) because I am the only granddaughter and my aunt has 2 sons and was not invite to go dress shopping with their SOs so she wouldn't be getting the opportunity to have that experience otherwise. I am not a fashionable person, by any stretch of the imagination and had absolutely no clue what I wanted in a dress so I brought them with me while I was trying to narrow down the style/shape/fabric/etc but when it came time to really start looking for THE dress it was just my mom and my MOH. Everyone wins that way. I didn't risk nasty opinions from my aunt on a dress that I loved but everyone got to be part of the experience.

While my DH is not an only child he is the baby, and there were some...characteristics of my MIL that showed themselves during the planning process. I ultimately chose not to invite her. I think I made the right choice.

I did not invite my MIL to my dress shopping but she is invited for the day I pick up the dress and try it on! Then after we finish there. We will be preparing the invitations at a restaurant.

I really like this idea as well!! I'm sure she'll be happy to be apart of some of the wedding decision making. Cake tasting is also one of the simpler parts of planning and something that'll be easy for you all to do together!
