Do I have to stop drinking?

Future Mrs Harvey, on May 22, 2016 at 5:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

...to lose weight? How bad is alcohol when you're trying to diet and exercise to lose weight. My goal is to lose 15 pounds in 5 months. I have already started to change my eating habits and I plan to start exercising this week.

    It will definitely help!

Alcohol calories (wine, mixed drinks, beer) add up quite fast!

It definitely helps. You can just cut back.

Even if you cut back you'll notice a huge difference. Especially if you drink beer or wine. Same goes with pop.

It helps. I cut down to just weekends, and only 2/3 weekend days.

If you don't want to stop at least reduce your drinking. It does hinder weight loss but if you change your eating habits and start exercising, you can still have some drinks... It is empty calories though.

Use my fitness pal to look up the calories of each drink and decide for each one, each time you want a drink. IMO dieting never means giving up all of anything, just limiting portions.

I only drink on the weekend, but I'm about to be out all summer (teacher) so I know I'll want to drink more. I don't drink beer and rarely drink wine. Margaritas are my drink of choice...or Cranberry and vodka.

It's just another in a looooong list of things you can do to lose weight. The more of those things you choose to do, the faster you'll lose. Cut out/down alcohol, eating out, fancy coffees, etc. Increase exercise-- even just parking farther from the entrance to stores-- veggies, fruit, etc.

Im in the same boat.. We've cut back to only on weekends, however we have softball on Thursdays and definitely have a couple during the games. I think starting next year I'll try to be a little stricter to loose those last few pounds

Rule of thumb is that you don't want to drink your calories. Alcohol has a lot of calories and tends to have quite a bit of sugar, so yes, it will help if you stop.

And there's nothing wrong with your personality if you drink, so disregard Rachel.

Ignore Rachel. Everyone else tries to.

Keep it minimal, drink way more water than wine or whatever, and you will notice a difference.

The big things to think about with alcohol are

    * Are you counting the calories from it in determining total calories?

    * Given that it's empty calories, are you getting enough nutrients from your other foods?

    * Are you finding it harder to refuse the cheesecake after a couple of drinks?

That doesn't necessarily mean no alcohol. You just have to look at your own consumption in the context of your diet as a whole.

Drink lots of water and just cut down on it. I've noticed a huge difference by cutting down on beers.
