Do i give an invitation to someone who told me they can't go?

Michelle, on June 10, 2021 at 11:49 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I have a good rapport with my boss, who has also worked with my fiance. We gave him a save the date and he talked about being excited to go, but then found out he had another engagement that day. He told me about it, saying he was disappointed two important things were on the same day (based on the conversation he's definitley going to the thing that isn't the wedding, which is fine of course!). Do I still give him an invitation? I don't want him to feel unwelcome or univited, but I I don't want it to come across like we're vying for a gift

No I wouldn’t. He already declined the save the date. He’s probably trying to save you the extra invitation that you have to send.

I have friends in Canada who will not be able to attend because of everything with covid and the border. I sent them an invitation anyway in case things changed. They texted me saying how they were so honored that we sent them an invitation, we had extra so it wasn't a big deal to send one. I probably if you have extra would give him one and let him know that he isn't obligated to go just because you gave him an invite but that if anything happens we're something changes that he is more than welcomed at the wedding.

Yes, give him an invite because you gave him a STD. Things can change.

We have some people that won't come and we've already sent STDs, but we're going to send invites to them just in case they can come!

I’d give it to him anyway. If his prior engagement falls through or his plans change then I’m sure he’ll make it to your wedding.

I would still give him an invitation. You could tell him that you know he said he couldn't make it and totally understand, but you wanted to extend an invite anyway just in case plans changed.

I would definitely still send the invitation. People's plans can change! It's also just the right thing to do. We had several people who told us they wouldn't be able to come after they received the save the dates, but we definitely still sent them invitations
