Do I Bring the Gifts to the Shower?

Frugal Gator, on February 26, 2016 at 3:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

So I've been receiving gifts in the mail from people who are coming to the shower. Pretty sure they are supposed to be shower gifts, even though they weren't wrapped inside the shipping boxes or say anything in the messages about the shower. Do I need to transport all these gifts to the shower so I can "open" them in front of the people who gifted them? There are quite a lot of them.

Also, would it be weird if I hand-delivered a thank you to them at the shower for the shower gifts since they were sent early?

I wouldn't bring them to the shower...I don't *think* it would be weird to hand deliver the thank you notes there. It's a nice acknowledgement.

I had all of my registry gifts mailed to my parents' house and my mom brought all of the boxes for me to "open" in front of the guests at the shower!

I'm with Lara-- shlepping the gifts there, just so people can see you 'oo and ahh' in person seems silly and a lot of work. And I can't think of any reason why hand-delivering the thank yous would be bad.

I wouldn't bring the gifts. I like your idea of hand delivering them a thank you note so they know it was received and appreciated.

I'm probably worrying about nothing, but now I'm wondering if I should call the people and ask them if they want me to bring the gifts. If it were me and I accidentally had the gifts shipped to the bride and groom instead of to myself, I'd be really embarrassed to show up to the shower empty-handed.

I don't think it was accidental (unless you have reason to believe that). They probably purposely shipped them to you to avoid the hassle of bringing them to the shower. I wouldn't bring them to the shower just to open in front of them. I do think it would be nice to thank them in person for the gifts though, and give them thank-you notes then as well.

I'm not bringing any to my shower next weekend, but I live in VA and my shower is in FL, so I think people sent them to me instead because of that.

Can you make an announcement before you start opening "thanks to all who sent gifts to my home"?

I wouldn't bring them to the shower, but I'd acknowledge the gift ASAP.

DH and I sent a large (as in size and $$ since it was a group gift) baby gift to our friends which was delivered on Saturday and I haven't heard a peep. I have no idea if they got it or not and I feel awkward asking them, but I'm worried it may have been lost or stolen.

I honestly think it's fine either way. At the shower, make sure you at least verbally thank them if you decide not to bring them.

I would not bring them to the shower. I would give thank you notes to the guests at the shower and verbally thank them as well

I would not bring them to the shower and I would NOT do thank you notes at the shower. Either send them now before you have a lot to do or wait and do all after the shower. Are these guests that will still be at the shower that are sending to your home?

When I send a gift rather than bringing it to the shower/wedding/whatever event, it's specifically to save the recipient from the hassle of having to carry it home (sometimes they travel a long way, maybe they have a small car, whatever). So no, you aren't expected to bring them with you. I think if the gift giver really wanted to watch you open it they would have wrapped it up all pretty and brought it to the shower.
