Wedding dresses run in different sizes than regular clothes. Don't worry about the number because that can just be confidence shattering. Just find a dress that fits well Smiley smile

Yup, they do, it's not you, it's bridal sizing vs street. I wear a size 10 street, had to order a 16, but should have ordered a 18 because my boobs are all the way up to my chin. But don't take it personal, it's just bridal sizing that's crazy!

I also suggest you try on dresses with shape wear on. The proper foundation will give you a much better look when you are trying them on. I went to Macy's. It was pricey, but worth it. I definitely felt more "pretty" when trying them on, rather than them accentuating all my chunks and bumps.

I ordered bigger than my normal size, so I cut out the size tag Smiley smile

Wedding dress sizes haven't changed with society - don't worry about it Smiley smile

Although if you usually wear a 20, 28 does sound big. I'm usually in the 18-20 range and the dress I ordered was a 24.

That's a beautiful dress on you. Dresses I tried on were crazy variety. I wear a street 8 and tried on from a 4 to a 14

Absolutely! I wear a street size 6 and my wedding dress is a 10. And the consultant told me to order a 12.

My experience is the same as Rebecca! I wear a 16/18 and my dress is a 22! Depends on the brand of dress though. While trying on dresses, I tried on an Allure dress that was a 22 and that sucker wouldn't even zip at all!

Yes, you are correct. Bridal dress sizes are generally not the same as street sizes. Over the years, the sizes of street clothing have changed to fit the "average" sized woman. This is referred to as "vanity sizing." Which means that what 50 years ago was a size 10 might be a size 6 today. Certain industries, such as high fashion clothing, wedding gowns, and sewing patterns haven't really changed with the times, so what size we wear in street clothing is not the same as the size we would wear in wedding dresses.

O ya, they do. I had to order up a few dress sizes. They said mainly b/c my hips are big. I was a size 4 in the bust, 2 in the waist, and size 6 in the hips haha (in dress sizes of course). Now it needs to be taken in everywhere but the damn hips. I am a street size 2 or 4-ish so I was surprised when she told me they were ordering me a 6.

I have a friend who normally wears a size 0 and had to get a size 6 wedding dress. It's the same across the board!

I think I'm the only one whose dresses actually ran in the right size for me! I'm normally a size 14/16 and she had me trying on 18's and I was swimming in them. She put me in an Oleg Cassini size 14 (that I ended up ordering) and it zipped up perfectly. I think it may be because I have an apple bottom and my waist is average. :X

In the end it doesn't matter the size you order because you're going to end up probably getting alterations later anyway. Just wear whatever you feel comfortable in and don't worry about the number!
