Do backless wedding dresses have less structure?

A&W, on March 29, 2016 at 11:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I definitely don't have the perfect body, so I probably need some structure up top to keep my love handles in check. I'm always drawn to the look of backless dresses, but would that be a bad idea for me?

My dress has a very low back and still has plenty of structure in the front. Yes, backless dresses will offer less support, but so will more delicate fabrics and a variety of other styles. Only way to know for sure is to try them on.

I definitely plan on trying them on. I'm just trying to manage my expectations because I'm not going wedding dress shopping until May.

I don't want to display any rolls so I wouldn't. Me personally, I have acne scars on my back so I definitely wouldn't wear one.

Mine is super supportive in the front and is backless. I'm also top heavy in the front, so I never thought it would work for me. I'm not sure if it would be as supportive if the front wasn't a high neck though. May as well try them on! You never know!

Mine is "technically" backless. it has an illusion back with an intricate design. I felt like that was a good way for me to be a little sexy without completely showing my back. Like Rachel, I have some acne scars from when I was a teen, so I don't want to highlight that.

My dress has a very low back and I did have some issues because it was basically flopping down in the front. I got a push-up backless, strapless bra for some added boost and my seamstress is taking the shoulders of the dress in to make it tighter to my shoulders and chest. But a lot of that depends on where the seams would be on a certain dress.

My dress is backless but because of the illusion neckline on the front, it definitely gives it enough support.

Mine has a keyhole back and tons of boning in the front so it's enough to hide my love handles but sexy enough to show a little skin.

I think it depends on the overall style of the dress and the material.

My dress has a fairly open back and while yes the back has no structure (naturally) the front is tight lace. My dress is also pretty poofy A-Line so the bottom is not structured either

Also something to keep in mind is that when you buy your dress they will likely be doing alterations to fit it to your body specifically so that will also make things look/feel different then when you are just trying on the sample

Backless dresses should have in them extra support to compensate for this...boning and an interface layer. This also depends on the manufacturer. Unfortunately not all are made the same.
