Djs... why are Djs so expensive?

Solo, on June 6, 2019 at 5:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 37
I’m excited for our big day, but I can’t imagine paying $2500 for a DJ!
any thoughts, what is a reasonable price to you?

Mine is pretty cheap but I did notice some can be really expensive. I guess it's because they're not just playing music but they're setting up the vibe of the party

We are in Denver, paying $1,100. To me, it's pretty reasonable. They will be at the event for around 7 hours, and he brings an assistant. So that equals around $80 an hour per person. That doesn't include the 10+ emails between us prior to booking, several phone calls before booking, emailing/signing the contract, and conference call we do before the wedding. Plus gas to the venue, lugging around & setting up all the equipment & having all our songs prepared & providing microphones. Plus business expenses. Our DJ is really well-reviewed, and was one of the lower priced ones. Most were $1,400-$1,800.

I soooooooo feel you in this. My DJ comes with uplifting and a photobooth though, but DJs for RI are far more expensive than DC- where I live. I have yet to figure that one out... demand??

The DJ I hired is about $1200, he had higher price points but it depends how many set up locations, time, and if you’re adding any extra equipment such as uplighting, etc.

Ours was $800 for 6 hours. I wasn’t willing to go over $1,000.

In Denver we paid $1900 but it included lighting and he had to travel over an hour and I believe spend the night in the town our wedding was in (by his choice because he worked a wedding there the night before too). Honestly he was worth EVERY penny.

We are paying $995 & that includes ceremony music, 4x reception & uplighting. I felt that this was a fair price in my area. I was quoted as high as $2500 for the 4x hour ceremony only.

Girl everything wedding related is expensive 😫. I live in NY and that's how much we're paying. It is very pricey for 4 hours though.

It is usually based on a higher cost of living. I would imagine it is much more expensive to live in DC than RI. The same is true where I live in Northern California. I live in the Sacramento area which is a much lower cost of living than the San Francisco/Bay area. My wedding was in between the two areas so I was able to save a lot by hiring vendors from the Sacramento area and paying their travel fee versus hiring vendors from the Bay area.

Here in California, that is a reasonable price. In fact, I got quotes from two other DJs before picking our guy, and they were more than that, with less "extras."

Djs are expensive bc they make the night! You need them for the initial walk in to introduce you as mr and mrs...they announce everything toasts cake cutting dinner time etc you just have to give them they break down of the night and they will do it ...plus who wouldnt want music at their reception i know i wouldn't go to one if there werent going to be good music ...so party on and live a little its one night if you have time just save up extra out of each pay check and put in an envelope mark it DJ and just keep saving till its all there and your all set just make sure when you sign papers you know how long they work for plus include them in the meal you provide most work and expect a meal to ...just some things ive learned hope it helps ..

I guess it depends on where you live. Ours was $400. We’re in Louisiana. My husbands best man paid for him as a gift.

It depends on your location and what add-ons you may have, but all my quotes were for $600-1000
