DJ/emcee cost

I'm wondering what y'all have paid for a DJ/emcee. We're looking for comparisons and have had several quotes in the $700 range. Also, did you go with someone that provides lighting? Or if not, do you wish you had?

I as well as my DJ are from the D[M]V however our venue is in the Shenandoah valley on a Sunday. I initially found him through Groupon and had an inquiry about his services. He stated that if I book through him directly he could waive the booking fee. I checked out his Facebook and viewed his recent gigs and we met up with him last weekend. 6 hours plus travel would have normally been $650 but we were able to secure it $550.

I’m probably going to end up paying $2.5k outside of philly, but it’s NYE and it’s the best DJ at one of the largest entertainment companies in the city. They’d take care of the ceremony, reception, and all of the MC’ing/event timeline. I’ve been to a lot of weddings recently where DJs have been meh, and I just don’t want an empty dance floor. Your DJ or band leader should basically run your event and keep everything on track since they control the flow of the crowd and letting everyone know what’s going on when.
