My DJ is doing everything. My entire event is taking place at the same location and the sound system is connected in all the areas that we are utilizing so he can be in the reception ballroom and play music for the ceremony and cocktail hour. I have seen people here have pianist or string quartet for the ceremony and the cocktail hour and a shower for the reception. It’s your day. Whatever you envision you can realize it.

I’m considering this too! Having a live guitarist for the ceremony / cocktail hour and using a DJ for the reception. I love the setting live music provides, very personal. And like how with a DJ, you can always end a song early and transition to new ones depending on the crowd. But, I might just stick with a live band for the whole wedding. Perhaps a solo artist before reception, and full band for reception.

We hired a band. They “DJ-ed” the ceremony music. A subset of the band did an acoustic set during cocktail hour (outside). Full band for reception (inside). One of the band members also DJ-ed during the breaks between band sets during the reception. I know we’re pretty lucky that the band we loved did all of this. If you can find a band that provides a similar service it’s really nice. We’d been to other weddings where the band’s DJ service during the live band breaks was a band member’s phone on Pandora it a Spotify playlist with text messages chiming through. . . It’s a bit of a vibe killer. 😂

Ohhhh I would’ve lost it if I had someone’s text messages going off during my reception music 😂

Kind of! We used a Spotify playlist for our reception, and my friend who is *almost* a professional flutist (he was 1 year away from graduating with a degree in music performance) played for our ceremony
