I'm home for the holiday weekend and my mom had ordered an Oriental Trading Wedding Catalog. So she's going through it and tells me that I better start thinking about what props I want to have. I had no idea what she was talking about and she said that I had to get props for the DJ to hand out. I've never been to a wedding that had this. So my question is yea or nay on DJ props. Are they fun or tacky? She wants to get glowsticks and sunglasses.

I haven't been to weddings with props. It makes me think of bar/bat mitzvahs as I saw them at every one I went to as a kid. Personally I think props are good for a photobooth at a wedding, but I'm not planning on my DJ handing props out. It really depends on what type of atmosphere you want as others have said. It's likely just an unnecessary expense.

My sister had a photobooth at her wedding. A bunch of the props made it to the dance floor, especially the 2 feather boas. People were having a lot of fun with them (formal wedding, too). I don't think she would have considered them, otherwise.

I've never seen them, unless there's also a photobooth, tap snap, etc.

A lot of DJs have done away with the idea of props, labeling them as "cheesy" or "gimmicks." I've picked the DJ we did particularly because they advertise that they don't use props because I personally don't care for them. But I've been to a wedding where they handed out glowstick necklaces and noisemakers, it was cute because it was a NYE wedding. Like everyone else has stated, it's all your personal preference.
