dj or Acoustic

Britney, on May 3, 2021 at 6:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Would a DJ be a good choice for the ceremony and reception or should I do some type of acoustic guitar or violin for the ceremony and DJ just for the reception?

I think either one could work. My advice would be to price out using the DJ for both vs just for the reception. We choose to use a DJ for both. It was easier especially since we got married four hours from where we live.

The DJ sounded fine for the ceremony?

You can always find an acoustic guitar or violin version of a song to have your DJ play at the ceremony. That's what I plan to do!

    It’s entirely personal preference.

I agree on it being a personal preference. We’re doing a string duo (violinist & cellist) for the ceremony and a DJ for the reception. I just now realized if we booked the DJ for both, we could’ve saved $225. But, we think the string music will add a level of elegance, drama and uniqueness to the ceremony. I would say look into the price differences and figure out which would fit best for your event.

Well that’s what I want the ceremony to feel like, a nice soft soothing sound, I’m not sure if the dj could do that.

    Hello Brit:

A DJ can play an accoustic or a classical music with the dramatic, classy vibe most brides and grooms (mostly brides) want. You can save money if you're on a tight budget. DJs can play anything since they're not "musicians".

I watched a youtube video a few years ago, where the groom, bride and the WP members danced to an electro song and I loved it.

We are going with 2 accoustic violins because our violinists are my future wife's bestie and her sister: otherwise, we would have hired the DJ for both.

We did a DJ for both. The DJ played instrumental classical music for the ceremony. It's completely personal preference.

Musician at ceremony is lovely but is an added cost, whereas the DJ will usually cover this included in their event fee or for a nominal extra charge. It's really a matter of personal preference. We decided to use a DJ for everything mostly for budget reasons. Having a live musician would have been lovely, but it would have been extra work to arrange and extra cost.

If you can, a string quartet makes for a lovely ceremony and after-drinks. It allows people to chat a bit too. Some older folks can't handle a DJ or hear to chat over the music.
