DJ for small wedding?

Jessica, on October 27, 2016 at 10:51 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 23

Hi all! So my wedding is going to be 35 people max maybe 40. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to have a DJ. It is my FH friends dad who would be doing it. Not much of my family are dancers and neither is FH. He will do our first dance but has no interest beyond that. Is it worth it?

I think it would be, the guest may want to dance.

I have 30 people and we hired a DJ. We are a lively bunch though!

I think it's worth it because DJ's do more than just play music. They also move guests through the timeline for the night, announcing different stuff like the cake cutting.

As a guest, I get pretty bored at weddings without music and dancing. Know your own crowd but just remember some people may leave early.

    Yes?

If I went to a wedding with no music I'd leave as soon as we ate. Just being honest.

Yes. We only have 45. I'm way less stressed knowing my DJ will keep things moving along, prevent unwanted speeches, and keep our guests entertained.

I think it depends on your venue. A DJ is always nice even for just great background music. But it's not necessary if your having a more casual small reception.

We're hiring a DJ. Not only for the great music and dance, but also to keep the party moving and flowing, to do the announcing, handle toasts, and keep guests entertained with liveliness. A good one is worth the money.

I had 30 guests and a DJ would have been horribly out of place.

I had live music for the cermeony and specific play lists for cocktail/dinner and dessert- I also had a bellydancer for between dinner and dessert.

Oh yea I had 43 guests and the small dance floor was PACKED! Just request a smaller dance floor as I did so it doesn't look empty.

We're having 30 guests but we're not having a DJ because we're the boring kind haha! We like to eat, drink and lounge.

I had 40 guests, 30 of whom were over 60. We had a reception with a small dance floor, a sound system, and a playlist on a computer. It worked smoothly, people gave announcements and toasts, and we chose music that the older guests would enjoy and dance to. BUT (this is the biggest but ever) I would not recommend this. Looking back, I should have just gotten a DJ. My plan did work, and people danced and had fun, but personally and for my situation, it caused the most stress. Creating playlists, working with my dad who wanted to be in charge, everything. Just my experience!

We have 22 coming for our DW (includes photographer and her husband). We're not having a DJ. I think it would feel really out of place, for our venue/feeling. We will have background music playing, so it won't be quiet, but that's about it.

And, like Christina said, we're kinda boring. We love to eat, drink and lounge!

I think it depends how well you know your guests (and it sounds like you do). Maybe they aren't big dance party people so maybe some sort of play list off a computer might work. I have been to weddings that have had DJ's and weddings where there was just a play list off an MP3 or something. Both have worked fine. My cousin hired a DJ and no body danced. Many of the same people will be at mine so I'm wondering if I should save my money........

I'm having 40 guests and we're using a DJ. They'll take care of announcements, and keep the partying going. I think it's money well spent.
