DJ and/or MC???

Sabrina, on December 19, 2016 at 4:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hellooo brides! My FH and I are at odds on whether or not we want an MC for our reception. We haven't been to many weddings so I am not sure what to do?

Thoughts? Is it much of a difference if the DJ plays great music?

To be honest, whether or not the DJ plays good music has a big affect on how much I enjoy myself at a wedding. I love to dance and weddings are a great opportunity to cut lose and dance with friends and family. When I go to a wedding that plays crap music, or no variety, I'm more likely to leave early. A lot of djs will act as the emcee. A good emcee is what keeps everything during the reception flowing. Make sure you shop around for someone that does both well.

If it's a great company, one person can do it.

Many professional DJs consider being the MC as part of their job. Ours brought it up as one of the services he provides.

All dj's I've seen have been the MC. Make sure you find someone you can watch in action on video if possible so you see if you like their stage presence.

You'll definitely want an emcee to handle announcements, introduce toast givers, etc... Many DJ's can also emcee, but not all. If that is what you're looking for, make sure you ask and talk to them about it. Also, it's really important to find out what their emcee style is. Make sure it's in line with what you're looking for in an emcee.

Most emcees you hire separately are big personalities, so if you go that route, make sure their personality and style is in line with what you want.

The DJ should be able to do both. That's how I've always seen it done.

Usually the DJ will act as an MC.

Our DJ is also an MC and will be making sure everyone knows when we cut the cake, have first dances, give speeches, etc. Find one that does both. Good music is a must to keep the party going.

Our DJ is the MC and will announce all of the events (first dance, cake cutting, last dance, etc.) A good DJ really keeps the party going, a bad DJ will be very noticeable.
