DIY(WILL IT BE MORE STRESSFUL)

Future Mrs. St Hillaire, on May 12, 2011 at 10:51 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

I decided not to hire a wedding planner only because I would like to save money so I have cut down on a lot of things. I am just hoping I am doing the right thing cause I really don't want to be stress on the most happiest day of my life. My FH says I can do it. I will be having help from the family so hopefully that will take some of the pressure off of me. I refuse to become a bridezilla.

How many of you ladies will be DIY vice verse having a wedding planner?

I do not have a wedding planner either. I have decided to have a venue that has a coordinator in it to keep the food and everything in order though. If you are really stressed about the actual wedding part....hire a "Day of Coordinator" It's usually a decent price. And nice to have ONE person calling the shots!

DIY all the way!!! The only thing I am paying anyone to do is for our cake. I have done all decor myself, all the bouquets myself, and will be doing the bouts and corsages myself (with the help of my cousin who does flowers for weddings on the side), and we are doing the food ourself as well. If you need to save money and will be doing your own food like me, consider buying your food from Sams Club, that's what we plan on doing.

Initially, I wasn't going to hire a wedding planner because I thought I could do it. As time went on, things became more and more stressful and I had to hire one. I feel so relieved. It defintiely can be done yourself, but for me, it couldn't. Between working 40-50 hours a week and going to graduate school full time, I couldn't dedicate the time needed to the wedding. Best decision of my life was hiring my wedding planner :o)

No wedding planner here. DIY! My DOC is a close friend. I suggest start getting your ideas together and not wait until the last minute.

I am doing it myself - as long as you have help setting up the tables and such you should be fine. I am having my bridesmaids and mom help me and I am going to set everything up ahead of time so I can relax and get ready afterwards. But like Mrs Mcfee 2b said, it's never to early to start planning everything so it wont become overwhelming.

Well, I'm not trying to bash planners, but what did people do before there was planners? Smiley winking

It's totally up to you. If you're someone who has a hard time giving up a little control, need to be involved in every step of planning and set up. Then there's not point in hiring a planner to do it for you, when you're just going to be there anyway. We DIY the whole way. We got into the reception venue the Wed. before the wedding, set up tables, prepped food, brought in the booze and mix, bagged ice, set up decor & linens, set tables. the Thurs & Fri were spent finishing up the food prep and baking of desserts. Sat morning my Mom called in some favors and trusty friends/realitives showed up to set up the ceremony decor, chairs, etc in my parents yard. It went off with out a hitch.

We did however, hire out the cooking of the food, filling buffet, clean up of plates, washing of dishes and we had people serve the head table only.

I didn't have a planner but I DO recommend a day of coordinator. I would have been lost without mine. I wish I could have DIY'd more but I quickly learned that I'm just not good at it :-)

Due to money constraints I am a DIY Bride. I will have a day of coordinator and serving help since we are donating money to my son's boy scout troop in exchange for the older scouts helping in the kitchen and with clean up. I think how much DIY is on how many guests your planning on having. Mine are mostly family and it numbers less than 100. So I plan on two/three adults and 4 scouts should be enough to handle a buffet line. My venue is gorgous without alot of decoratiion also plus if I need it the officiant we are going to hire does DOC work.

Before Planners, there were family members, lol! I'm doing the planning for my niece's wedding, and there will be two of us as DOC for the day (so that each of us can also enjoy the day more!) DIY does take time and effort - see if you can enlist friends or family members to assist in projects.

Most of our clients do not use a wedding planner. If you allow enough time to plan it can be done! We strive to help our clients with any aspect of the day, not just the photography. We recommend other vendors we have worked with and assist in any way we can to help the process of stressful planning. Make sure your vendors really take your wedding into consideration as if it were their own...Happy clients are what make their pictures all the better to take so it is to our advantage to help one another.

I'm doing it myself for the most part but I have a good friend that is trying to venture out into wedding planning so I will have her assisting here and there and she will be the one that all of the vendors contact on the day of as well as the one to make sure rehearsal and to get everyone on time for everything on the day of just like a wedding planner would do and she's FREE lol. If you can find a friend or someone that you can count on to be that contact person and make sure things go smoothly on the day of, do it b/c it'll lesson the stress on your big day! No vendors trying to call you or you trying to run around making sure everyone's on time.
