diy Veil

Hey Everyone!

I'm highly considering buying a plain veil and adding my own embellishments (I love crafting and the veil I want is way too expensive). I’ve been searching the internet and Pinterest for some good videos/tutorials on doing your own veil but I can’t seem to really find a good one.

I want to add beaded trim to the edges and I’m considering adding gems/crystals or pearls scattered throughout the veil. I can’t seem to figure out if it’s best to attach it using hot glue, fabric glue, sewing or a combination. I also saw something about a hot fixed applicator for the gems. So I was wondering if anyone whose done their own veils had any advice or knew of some good videos or a website/blog with instructions (pictures too cause I’m more of a visual person when it comes to learning new crafting techniques lol)?

Thanks in advance!!

If you haven't already, look on Amazon. I found my veil for $15. They have LOTS of options and you may be able to find one you like. As for the gems throughout, if you really want to DIY, use E6000 glue. It is clear and I would use it in pageants to glue gem stones. You put a dollop on a sour cream lid or something like that. Use a toothpick to pick a tiny bit up and place it on the veil. Then attach the stone. It dries completely clear and is STRONG. It is toxic though so make sure you're in a ventilated room.

Welcome to the WeddingWire community, Kelsea!

That’s amazing that you’re going to try to make it yourself. I’m a little klutzy so I don’t know if I would trust myself!

Have you checked out YouTube for any tutorials? I always search YouTube for makeup and hair tutorials and find some great guides!

Thanks Cliodhna! I've found a few YouTube videos so far but most are for adding lace appliques and I was leaning more towards doing gems and a beaded trim.

I was considering this too. Im pretty crafty myself, but the veil has been my only fail wedding wise. It takes SOOOOOOOO much time. For instance i thought I wanted a jewel trim veil. I bought the heat applicator and several different kinds of jewels. I did a trial run on a cheap veil. It took me about 2 hours to get approximately 4" done. It was also very difficult to keep them in a straight line, or any intentional pattern. After i finished the 4 " I put the veil on and about 1/3 of the crystals fell off. I had also attempted with glue, which was a messy epic fail. Because the crystals didn't adhere instantly, if I moved the fabric at all the crystals Id already applied would slide all over.

My suggestion would be to say its doable, but Id highly recommend maybe getting appliques or strings of whatever your wanting to attach as the trim, and sew it on.
