diy Stargate Archway Help!!! - Fresno, Ca

Sarah, on July 7, 2024 at 9:04 PM Posted in California Planning 0 4

Hi everyone me and my fiancee are HUGE fans of Stargate and are having a Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate-themed wedding. Our dream is to have a Stargate archway behind us during the ceremony but not sure how to make this a reality. If anyone can provide any assistance it would be much appreciated, also looking to keep it budget-friendly. Thank you in advance!!!

Where are you located? My son does lighting/projection design for theaters. If you give me your location, he can reach out to his contacts. He used to work for Royal Caribbean Cruise lines, so his tech list is long (and prosperous) 😉

My initial thoughts would be to first have a frame of wood, and/or metal, and pvc pipe for the initial structure. I would look into how cosplayers work with foam for the intricacies of the arch. Next, I would look into a projector/screen for the portal or, just leave it as the circle itself.

Now, I am not sure of the size you need, or how the seasonal elements may affect your ceremony if it is outdoors. I would suggest that the "feet" of your arch need to have more support similar to the wood beams of this photo, and can be weighed down discreetly.

It might be a good idea to plan how you are going to transport and take your arch to the venue, as well as moving and arranging the arch if you need to move it indoors due to inclement weather. It may be worth building a circular star gate that can be mounted and hide a rectangular frame since they usually are more stable.
