Stopped off at Shane Co last week to get my standard 6 mo ring cleaning. I was talking to an employee about wedding bands and I asked how often they clean the rings in the display case - he said EVERY night. Every night they take them out, soak them for 15-30 minutes in a "mixture" and then steam them. I asked him what they use for cleaning and he said it's pretty much just 3 parts warm water and 1 part windex! He said you can do it at home, let it soak, then give it a light scrub with a soft bristle toothbrush and BAM sparkly ring! He also said you can even go the next step and put the ring in your dishwasher on the steam setting. HAHA Since I have a white sapphire, it can get dirty pretty quickly, so I tried the soak part yesterday and it definitely left the ring more sparkly that any other solution/soap I had tried. Wanted to post in case it helps anyone else!

Just be careful because depending on your stones this may not be a good idea. In reality it's best not to wear your jewelry in the shower, while washing your hands etc. I know that it's a pain to take jewelry off to wash your hands but I do this with most of my rings (except my diamond) because certain stones can absorb the water/soap and it can change the color of the stone and damage it over time. Diamonds are pretty strong so this shouldn't be an issue. I say this as a warning so people don't try doing this with all of their jewelry. I do metalsmith work and I've seen what happens when people don't treat their jewelry properly. Depending on the acidity of your skin it can also create more of a shine on your ring bands over time, we all have different body chemistry. I personally do not clean my jewelry often at all. There are some great polishing cloths out there made by Sunshine. I stay away from the generic crap sold by jewelry stores.

I do warm water, dawn dish soap, and little Windex. I would be super nervous putting it in the dishwasher, but I am sure it works!

I use the Bling Brush once a week and sometimes use a spot of blue Dawn if I get too liberal with the hand lotion at work!

Those showcase settings are not real rings. I wouldn't clean it every day.Maybe every 6 months or for special occassions. You might ruin the ring

Thank you! I use my hands a lot at work and I notice its making my ring more dull now than 2 months ago. I will have to start doing this nightly.

My jeweler gave me a solution to use and its blue and smells like soap/windex and is bright blue. However, they said when I run out they said to use dawn soap and a soft toothbrush. Nothing like a professional steam & clean though!!!!

We just use dish soap a few times a week (I say we, but it's really my H that does it, personally I couldn't care less), never heard about using windex. We don't use windex in our house so we don't have it available, but dish soap seems to do the trick just fine!

I would be terrified putting my ring in the dishwasher, for fear it would get knocked loose and get lost or something.

Thanks for sharing! I'll definitely try this...I wonder if I should try using my laundry steamer for the second part?

Just keep in mind everyone, the 6 month visit is also so they can professionally check your ring integrity to make sure nothing is lose. You don't wanna lose those sparkly things Smiley smile

    I'm going Saturday...can't believe it's been 6 months already!
