DIY seems like a great way to save money, but as the date comes closer... I have to say that doing SO much DIY was a huge regret of mine.

I did the following:

1. Family Cookbook (gift for reception with 85+ recipes, our family trees, and personalized pages to represent each individual. Gathering the recipes in time, organizing it, ordering it, and proof reading took WAY longer than I thought it would)

2. Wedding invitations (although they were some of the most phenomenal wedding invitations I've seen, they took WAY too long, our house looked like confetti and it was just more tiring than I thought)

3. Mini-figure Star Wars items (we are having a Star Wars theme and I wanted to keep it within our colors and classy. Putting together a Star Wars scene seemed like a great idea, but we are 13 days out and I'm just now finishing the final coats)

4. Flowers (I did a WHOLE bunch of them, then decided I wanted the real thing delivered and ended up wasting money. I'm still bringing the ones I did for the day of coordinator to use, but could have saved the money and time if I hadn't started that process)

I have a lot of personal touches and things we can keep forever that will always remind us of the wedding, but DANG! What have been your projects? Any regrets? Did they take more time than you thought they would? How did they turn out?

I do have to say that I'm happy with all of the project turn outs, though!

I also have been coordinating my entire wedding with a family friend that will hold the fort up on my big day. She has been my life line with these projects. She wanted to suprise me and made both my bouquets for me.

Love the family cookbook idea! I’m sure it was a lot of work, but a lovely keepsake!

I’ve done some diy - but I’m realistic w/ my own talents lol. I’m not the craftiest person.
We bought a whole bunch of chalkboards, but I paid a friend to do the writing lol since she is really good & that type of stuff & I am not. I ordered some decals from Etsy to attached to some of the other signs.
I had a pdf ceremony program done from Etsy in a 24x36 & then just I ordered a foam board of the design from Staples.
I also ordered a wedding timeline template & printed them out on 5x7 invites from CVS for the wedding party. I am now using the same template adding some pages & will print those out in welcome programs from CVS - which will be included in the welcome bags.
I thought about doing our flowers - but I got worried about the timeline & spoke to FH we decided to buy & save ourselves (really me lol) the stress.
We thought about using WedIt or one of those services, but I didn’t want our guests to have a job at the wedding - I was pretty insisting on this. So we found a videographer who agreed to do a 15 minute video & a 3 minute social media clip for x amount.

My veil probably took the longest, outside of alterations for my dress (I swapped the lining for a different color.

I also did all my own paper goods, cut and stuffed envelope liners.

I did all my own flowers.

The one I am not looking forward to is ironing or steaming all the tablecloths over several days after arriving for our out of state wedding.

Ya I can understand the juxtaposition of that. Your projects turned out great but they all take so long... it was a catch 22 for me in some way too.

I’m going to dry some of my flowers using silica gell and some I’ll dry. Then I’ll make a design with my flowers after the honeymoon.

Maybe you could find a way to rearrange some of your projects to fit into your home design after the wedding?

Thank you!!! It does go back to our great, great grandparents! We have some recipes from the depression, from the 20s, etc! It was a pain, but it is nice knowing that our guests will always remember our wedding when they open the book and that the recipes aren’t lost to future generations.

That being said, it costs WAY more money to print and bind a book like that and make it professional... and of course my type A wanted it professional looking!

It sounds like you had a good balance of outsourcing your DIY and doing what you could! That is awesome!

I also outsourced the writing. My FSIL. She does it on a high end iPad and I was able to use her handwriting for the invitations, cookbook cover (pictured above) and she is helping with some signs.

Would have just had generic things otherwise!

What in the world is Wedlt?! I've never heard of that before! I agree that it is better to not have guests have too many tasks though!

Oh my God thank is AMAZING! One skill I wish I had the patience to learn. You are an amazing seamstress!

Ironing would be a pain for sure! I ironed all of our "happy tears" handkerchiefs, which seemed like a cute idea until the 45th one rolls around... lol

Only if they want to. I'm very particular about how I want things to look, so I have no issue doing it all by myself Smiley laugh

Your cookbook idea is absolutely amazing. I wish I could do something like this. You should be really proud of yourself! That’s such a meaningful gift!
