diy Regrets

DIY seems like a great way to save money, but as the date comes closer... I have to say that doing SO much DIY was a huge regret of mine.

I did the following:

1. Family Cookbook (gift for reception with 85+ recipes, our family trees, and personalized pages to represent each individual. Gathering the recipes in time, organizing it, ordering it, and proof reading took WAY longer than I thought it would)

2. Wedding invitations (although they were some of the most phenomenal wedding invitations I've seen, they took WAY too long, our house looked like confetti and it was just more tiring than I thought)

3. Mini-figure Star Wars items (we are having a Star Wars theme and I wanted to keep it within our colors and classy. Putting together a Star Wars scene seemed like a great idea, but we are 13 days out and I'm just now finishing the final coats)

4. Flowers (I did a WHOLE bunch of them, then decided I wanted the real thing delivered and ended up wasting money. I'm still bringing the ones I did for the day of coordinator to use, but could have saved the money and time if I hadn't started that process)

I have a lot of personal touches and things we can keep forever that will always remind us of the wedding, but DANG! What have been your projects? Any regrets? Did they take more time than you thought they would? How did they turn out?

I do have to say that I'm happy with all of the project turn outs, though!

Your projects look great! However, I do agree with you that doing too much DIY is often a mistake. You end up making things that you really could have done without, except that you got so excited about being able to do them. And often you don't save that much money, after taking into account materials you mess up--certainly not enough money to justify the time involved.

Absolutely! It seems like a GREAT idea on paper, but not worth it in the end!!! I wish I found this wedding website BEFORE I had committed to the projects lol
    Thank you for the compliment!

Oh, and you asked what we did. I've got a complete list at this link:

But the biggest one (literally, and in terms of how much time it took) was the chuppah (wedding canopy):

So beautiful! I’m doing silk flowers all on my own too and I love how they’re turning out, but each bouquet takes about 20-30mins depending on if the glue gun cooperates.. still doesn’t sound too bad, except we have 11 bridesmaids plus my bouquet still. Idk about you, but I’m picky with my DIY. A lot of people have offered to help which I truly appreciate, but I have a hard time letting go.

I'm diy'ing a lot for our wedding, too, but nothing has taken a huge amount of time, yet. Bouquets, boutinneres, backdrops, (potentially) favors, my veil and hair accessories. The thing that will take the longest is our cake. I kinda hate that I'm making it, but I wasn't happy with the bakery we chose. I have experience, so no major worries there, just an inconvenience.

You have incredible talent! The only thing I've really DIYed is my pew bows. I also plan on making my own real flower arrangements!

I’m trying to do the least DIY so I don’t have to bring as much on the day of. Everything you made turned out great, though time consuming I hope you love your finished product!

Totally understand the hot glue issue, and the picky! I’ve had several people who have tried to help me, but ultimately I ended up wanting to do it solo! Have a photo of one of your finished products yet?

I did alot of DIY stuff and I am almost finished with all of them. We are having a rustic camo wedding. We did centerpieces, bouquets, boutonnieres, signs, guest book (wood burning names ect), table numbers, desserts, courages, table decorations, part of the invitations, designed my maid of honors dress, favors. I'm sure I missed a few but. I don't regret any of them. There are a few of my projects....

Yes, lots. I've been making cakes for all occasions for 6 years now. That's kinda why the cake has to be good - high expectations.
