Hi all,

I have a couple makeup trials coming up and already had one really bad flop (the guy was awesome but wanted to charge $300 for day of makeup!!!). I'm a makeup enthusiast and really do love doing my own makeup and perfecting my techniques, but I would really prefer not to do my own makeup day of. Part of me wants to start planning just in case I don't find someone...

So, the point of this post is...if you DIYed your own makeup, do you have any regrets? Would you have preferred to hire someone? Also, what did you do to prepare?

If you do DIY, make sure you invest in the quality products. You'll definitely want a good foundation and a good concealer. Go to Sephora on an "off time" where you'll be able to have someone talk to you one on one. Tell them what you need- long wear foundation for your wedding. Explain that you have oily skin, see if they can recommend a good foundation for oily skin (Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation is good for oily skin, I've heard KVD Lock It foundation is good but not sure myself).

Don't be hesitant to spent a little more $ on quality products. Jaclyn Hill has an amazing bridal makeup video on her site that tells you how to do everything- I just ordered all of the eyeshadows she talks about in the video last night, because they turned out beautiful and were not incredibly expensive.

Be sure to practice and maybe even write down everything you use and the order you use it in so on the morning of you're not stressed. Good luck!

@Laura, I didn't actually :/ it might be too late now, I just wanted to let it go, but I should. One of my BMs called and yelled at her. I guess in her defense, she said if we drove to her studio instead (about an hour away) she would give us a discount off the bill. But..to have to figure out driving two hours round trip for makeup, morning of the wedding, definitely wasn't going to work. I get that she probably got a closer offer, but she had been booked for months. It's kinda unfair to just cancel on someone with such a short time frame. Haha it gets me riled if I think too much about it, like who does that?

Laura Mercier oil free foundation mixed with a little facial moisturizer and then set with Laura Mercier loose foundation has great longevity but not too much shine.

Stephanie Lange also has a good YouTube tutorial on bridal makeup! I want to do my own makeup because I like doing it and I feel like I wouldn't look like myself if someone else did my makeup. Primer and setting spray do wonders for helping your makeup last all day!
