diy Invitations

Tessa, on September 27, 2019 at 12:00 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 4 14

I've got to show off my DIY invitations because they were made with so much love (4 hours of love to be exact)! I purchased fancy shhhmmancy linen paper and envelopes from cutcardstock. I did all of my trial runs on cheap paper I purchased from amazon and they turned out great! For whatever reason, as soon as I went for the expensive linen, paper jam, paper jam, paper jam. Thankfully I had extra and was able to get the settings right. Once I had the printer ready, it was easy peasy.

Linen Ivory envelopes & cards (A7) $40

Etsy template for invitation and address label $9

Printer was free (my wonderful boss let me use our office printer) price quote from Staples $12

I would highly recommend this process if you don't have a lot of invites to make. It saved money (some of the minted.com linen invites can be $10 a pop) and it was a lot of fun. I also enjoyed the creative freedom of moving around the template and making changes. This template originally had flowers on it which I knew I didn't want, but I loved the font so I went for it. I loved the flush to one side and knew lining up the text boxes wouldn't be easy for me, the etsy template was a must for that,

Yes! I purchased an invite template for $6 and an envelope template for $3. Etsy has alot of suite options which includes RSVP cards, detail cards, envelopes, ect. All together for $25-40. I'm only inviting our immediate family so I'll be doing RSVP and details over the phone. Since I didnt need all of it I bought both ala carte. What was most important to me was all of the formatting and lines perfect. It saved me a huge headache!

How many invitations did you have to make? I am thinking of making mine and am curious if its worth it with the labor of printing and putting them all together. Thanks!

Hi Kristen! I made about 10 invitations, but the time consuming part is the editing and the test runs. Once you have everything perfect and you hit print, it doesn't matter if you are printing 1 or 1,000 in terms of time and effort. If you are printing at an office store like kinkos or office depot, obviously you are paying per print so the price does go up. But for the sake of your sanity, you work is done once you hit print.

What thickness was your paper? I bought 140lb weighted paper and the local print shop said the would not be able to print on my paper. It also has a texture to it as well.
