DIY Invitations - Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc.

Stephanie, on March 3, 2016 at 10:09 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

Hey gals!

So I just purchased my wedding invitations... a diy set from Hobby Lobby! Originally i thought I would purchase through a wedding paper site, but I just couldn't pass these up when they were on sale for $10/pk of 25! They're also in our colors...mint, coral, gold.

My question is... has anyone used these kinds of diy templates before? What was your experience with them? Was it worth it? (I'm hoping so!) Smiley smile

We have the same colors. Smiley smile We also purchased our invites to do this way and I'm planning to try a test print soon. I've also heard that you can take them somewhere like staples to be printed so you but I haven't tried that.

We did ours that way and I really love them. Under the foggy paper flap is our engagement picture.

I also got DIY invited from Hobby Lobby during one of their 50% off all wedding stuff sales. I used their template and printed it first on regular printer paper cut to the same size as the invite (they didn't come with an extra to test) and laid it over the invite to see if it matched up.

However, just a small warning, when I went to test on the actual invite in my printer, it wouldn't pull the paper through because it was too thick so I had to use my parent's printer which is (obviously) a better printer.

If you want to save $$ from ink costs, I suggest going to your local print shop. I bought the DIY box kits (I got mine on sale too! $9/50pk!) and I'm just taking them to the print shop and they will design the template and everything. It will probably cost around $30-40 to print them all! Smiley winking

I ended up lucking out and finding multiple sets at the dollar store for a $1 each (normally at Michael's for $40 though). The templates are easy to use but buy a few extra so that you can test print. I probably printed up to five extra when testing colors, fonts, wording, etc. I paid about $40 on ink, but am still using those cartridges now, I didn't completely run them out (but this depends on your printer). I did doctor mine up a bit with an envelope liner and some extra glitter glue, I know not perfect, but this isn't the final product, did a little more tweaking.

I suggest shopping at Michaels, Joanne's or online. Anywhere but Hobby Lobby.

ETA: Joanne's has a huge wedding section and awesome coupons to rival Michaels.

Stepanie - They weren't glittery initially. I doctored them up with glitter glue from Walmart and the liners I cut from glitter wrapping paper. I only had 70 to send out and I bought a silhouette die cut machine that made the liners easy.

Hi LaTonya - I didn't print directly on the envelope but I did get clear address label stickers from Avery.

They have an online program that you can use to type out the addresses with different fonts and designs. Very easy to use!

Here's the link to the labels!
