diy help!

Sarah, on January 20, 2020 at 12:20 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 33
Hi everyone! I need help with where to buy stuff for my wedding that's inexpensive. Originally, my parents were paying for our wedding, but after we booked the venue (a very expensive venue they chose), my dad had decided he no longer wants to be a part of my wedding (will no longer come or help with) due to some family drama. So, now since our budget is basically half of what we thought it was going to be, I need ideas for DIY stuff! Any suggestions for places to buy stuff or cheaper alternatives for decor, flowers, etc. would be super helpful!

Flowers are much cheaper (and easier to DIY) when they’re fake. Look out for sales as well, and dial back the guest list if invites haven’t gone out yet

Etsy is very helpful. And of course good old YouTube is good with tutorials to help with DIY. And I hope the family drama is put to the side so at least your parents come to your wedding even if they dont help/contribute to the cost. Good luck.

Hobby lobby has 50%off their wedding stuff every other week I believe and then their faux flowers are 50%off the opposite week. I got my card box there, ceremony signs, table numbers, and some of my flowers.

Also check Facebook market place for your area, people will sell their stuff after their wedding is over.

Check craft stores that are going out of business, depending on your theme, go antiquing when the spring time comes, oriental trading for favors and such, and like others said: YouTube is your bff. Instead of asking for gifts you could ask people to help, like if your one friend is an amazing origami maker (random but go with it) and they ask what they can do/ what to get you, ask and see if they can make your centerpieces out of paper

Check AC Moore , they’re closing and have huge discounts on wedding stuff. If you have a bit of time before your wedding, the Wish app is also helpful but make sure you read reviews on the products before you buy them to make sure they’re up to par. They ship internationally so some items may take longer to arrive. I’ve ordered a few cool things from there for my wedding !

Hello! I just found out that Tableclothfactory.com carries loads more than just tablecloths and runners- I managed to find my greenery there for a Really reasonable price, rather than going through a florist for, let's face it, a Lot of work and cost, with no lasting product to show for it, months later. Good luck!

Everything! I am going to do mixed centerpieces- half of the tables are going to have tree branches spray painted gold with jewels hanging off, but I need to think if something for the other tables. I want to do flowers, but if I have to do them myself im worried about time. I also need to do all of the signage myself now, so I need inexpensive picture frames or something.

If you have a Michael's or Joanns nearby, download their apps and wait until they have a coupon for 20% off your entire purchase. You can buy tons of fake flowers, lanterns, vases/flowerpots, bouquet materials, chalkboards for making signs, and get it all discounted that way. You can also order online from both of those stores

I'm not sure if it's nationwide but the A.C.Moore craft stores are closing in my area so everything is being discounted, including wedding stuff!

I would highly recommend Facebook market place! I got about 75% of my decorations from there! Flowers I went with hobby lobby and did the faux ones for my girls and they look amazing. Do as much as you can DIY with clearance from michaels and joanns. That’s how I saved as much as I could!

Oh also, shop around for invites and rsvps I found a site that’s 99 cents for both together!

Facebook marketplace has been a huge saver for us. Efavormart also has a bunch of decorations and will do 15% off coupon codes pretty frequently. I also signed up for the Michaels email list and have been receiving a lot of 50% off one-item coupons lately. Since we still have time before the wedding I’ll buy things from them slowly over time. A lot of brides also get their floating candle vases from Dollartree for a lot cheaper than other stores are selling

Also I’d watch the shipping charges at some of the online retailers. I was going to order charger plates from tableclothfactory but the shipping was going to be over $50. I ended up buying them somewhere else where the cost per plate was slightly higher but after shipping ended up being cheaper.

You can also check out DHGate and Ali Express, but nite the shipping times will be a little longer since it’s coming from Asia

I would check out some YouTube videos.. look for the dollar tree centerpiece diy videos.. sometimes fake flowers can be just as expensive as real flowers but I would definitely look into sams club bulk flowers or fifty flowers..

Sorry to hear about your situation! My parents aren’t helping with our wedding either - my dad said they paid for my college so they aren’t paying for my wedding 🤷🏻‍♀️
Facebook Wedding/party groups or Facebook marketplace are good resources because many people are selling things from their own weddings! I’ve heard Costco is great for flowers and was just recommended a website called FiftyFlowers I think? Local craft stores (Michael’s Hobby Lobby, Joann’s, Etc could be good to look at also!
