DIY Help - Paint on Aisle Runner

dragonfly726, on September 2, 2011 at 4:02 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

Hi All,

Ever since I saw this post online http://roadtotheaisle.blogspot.com/2007/07/diy-aisle-runner.html I have wanted to paint my own design on an aisle runner. Since we are having an outdoor wedding we wanted a heavier fabric, so our aisle runner will be burlap. I am now having trouble figuring out how to paint my logo (pictured) onto my burlap aisle runner.

Any ideas?

Can you print it on an iron-on sticker and then adhere it to the runner? I would definitely do a test run first though. Or bring it to a silk screen shop.

Print it out on big paper. Either tape together lots of sheets or go to kinkos.

Flip it over and rub graphite or maybe even chalk? on the back side.

Put the paper on the runner, graphite side down, image up.

Trace over the image. It should press the graphite (chalk) onto the runner to give you an outline.

I thought about the iron-on, but haven't had any luck finding any big enough, the biggest I can get is 8 1/2 x 11

An art store will sell graphite sticks if you want to go that route. They have charcoal sticks too. Not sure if chalk will work, but an idea.

Personally, I would just nix the whole thing and put the logo on the programs. Why risk it turning out janky?

Another thing that I've seen for a fall wedding was to have the flower girl toss big leaves instead of rose petals. They had collected them from their yard prior. It was gorgeous, especially after the wind picked up and the leaves stared floating around. It would go with your theme and be a whole lot less work~

Those iron on things that you can just buy probably won't work on burlap. Too coarse of a fabric.

Fabric paints. Your design is probably too complicated, especially for a coarse fabric like burlap. Maybe just do some random leaves, etc.
