DIY Centerpieces

MS. NEEK, on June 3, 2011 at 3:41 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

I'm getting married Sept. 18th of this yr. and I'm going to be doing the centerpieces myself. I'm going to have about 15-20 tables. I would love some suggestions on low cost centerpiece ideas.

I'm doing rose bowls, with purple "gem stones" and river rocks in the bottom, and 3 floating candles, and square mirrors underneath. The rose bowls we're borrowing so those are free, the mirrors we got for $1 each from Dollarama, the candles we're making, and the rocks we're getting from Michaels, so all together it should be about $5 - $7 dollars for each one.

I'm doing very basic 2 Callie lilies submerged in water. I found vases at Micheals for $4 each, plus there is always a 40% off coupon in Brides magazines, so i'm going to use that to get them at about $2.50 each. and the Callie lilies are $100 for 75. so all in all it will be about $5 each. maybe a little more because i've heard you want to use distilled water not regular tap water.

I second Hayley C about Dollar Tree, I know it sounds cheap, but seriously the vases from there look just as good as the ones I've seen everywhere else, and of course at Dollar Tree their only $1 a piece, they also have the decorative river rocks if you want a more natural feel. Again I secon Hayley, anything but flowers will save you money. I'm using mason jars as my centerpieces, their really cheap and you can find them at any grocery store during this time of year, in my case they were free because there was a bunch sitting in my nana's basement, check with relatives or any friends who have recently gotten married and see if they have any vases or something for you to use!

I am making photoframe boxes with 4x6 frames from the dollar store and adding tissue paper poms on top, less than 5-00 per centerpiece.

Here are my ideas. They are simple and elegant and very economical. You can also do a floating candle in a cylinder shaped vase, color the water and put flowers in the water before you add the candles.

I had alot of ideas but i saw this in my local market and decided this is it. I will be using silk flowers and buying the vases at walmart or joann fabrics or garden ridge. Which ever is cheapest. Add some voltive candles, ribbon and thats it. I will also put a few of those jewel rocks around the table and maybe a mirror.

Tissue paper poms look great and are less expensive than flowers (although WAY more labor intensive). You could get the vases and river rocks at dollar tree and then place a tissue pom on top. The first pic shows what it would look like except that pic shows the pom made from fresh flowers. The second pic shows what a tissue pom looks like. And this is a link to a DIY instructions on how to make the poms. http://ruffledblog.com/do-it-yourself-tissue-paper-pomanders/ (also this site has a DIY pom idea that are a little simpler to do but also look a little simpler too http://www.marthastewart.com/how-to/tissue-paper-pom-poms-how-to )

My favorite cost cutting thing we are doing for our wedding is small cupcake trees on each table, then laying greenery and fresh flowers around the base of them for centerpieces. This will save us money on our actual wedding cake since we only need a small cake to cut. We bought 12 cupcake tree stands at Joanns by gathering up coupons from everyone we know; cutting the cost of them by 40-50%.
