DIY budget Wedding Venue MD, DC, NOVA

Katie, on September 30, 2015 at 1:45 PM Posted in Planning 1 8

Hello,

I am currently searching for some recommendations for wedding venues in the DC metro area that are:

- budget friendly (looking to spend MAX $3,000 for the venue)

- allows outside catering (BBQ wedding!)

- can fit 125-180 people

- rustic feeling (barn, historical)

-bonus if it is nearby a waterfront (the bay, river)

-can rent for multiple days in a row, since we're doing everything DIY having the extra day to set up can be really helpful

-allows alcohol

- can go past 10p.m. (many of the places that fit all of our other requirements, require events to end by 10!)

We have been looking at some state parks in MD, but they can be extremely competitive! Thanks in advance!

Try Billingsley house in MD or any of the places owned by PG county park system. I'm also using Fairfax old town hall for my wedding and they are cheap and allow you to bring in whatever caterer and alcohol you want, but aren't waterfront. I dunno about reserving for multiple days.

@Katie - First of all, Welcome to the WeddingWire Community! Smiley smile Please upload a main picture when you get a chance ~ it helps us recognize you as you comment.

Are you willing to be flexible with your venue wishlist? That's a lot of must-have's ~ and living in this area, I know it is expensive! My first suggestion was going to be some of the parks down along the canal in MD ~ I've attended events there (I forget the exact name of the park), but if you haven't looked in that area, it's worth a shot.

Try checking the WeddingWire vendor catalog to see if you can find any options or starting points for your research!

I was looking for all of the things you listed! I am holding my wedding next April at Melrose Caverns Lodge in Harrisonburg, VA (about 2 hours south of DC). The rental fee gives us the venue from noon Fri - noon Sunday. It is a gorgeous old stone lodge. I think the low package is $3200. It isn't waterfront, though.

Other than renting multiple days in a row (not sure what venue allows that which would be reasonable). I agree MD parks woukd be good. I am looking for someone to take over my April 2nd, 2016 date at Newton White Mansion (6 pm to 1 am). I've cancelled once already. My health is not allowing me to plan a wedding, so I'm going to probably go away or marry on a cruise ship. If you are interested let me know. I'm discounting it.

Have you looked at Adelphi Mill?

    http://www.pgelegantsettings.com/Our_Sites/Adelphi_Mill/Rental_Information.htm

It would include everything other than the multiple days thing, although the maximum is 150 people. It's historical. It's near a small creek, although not a major river. And you could get a 16-hour rental, which would allow a lot of time for set-up. Honestly, if your DIY takes longer than that to set up, DIY probably doesn't make economic sense--the cost of the extra day's rental would be more than the cost of getting whatever you want to DIY commercially instead.

"The Other Barn at Oakland Mills" http://oaklandmills.org/rent-the-other-barn/the-venue/

This meets a lot of your criteria, but I don't think it meets the multiple days. Budget venues in the DMV are hard for sure. Good luck!

    Check out this site: http://pancakesandglueguns.blogspot.com/2013/06/barn-wedding-venues.html

It lists a bunch of the MD barn venues. You'll have to check for the rest of your criteria, but at least its a start.
