diy Bout and Bouquet

Danica, on February 2, 2020 at 10:35 AM Posted in Planning 1 6
Since I am not a huge flower person, I am planning on picking up some seasonal florals from my local Trader Joe’s for my bouquet and then making my FH boutonnière the day before the ceremony.

Here’s the issue: I’m getting hair and makeup done at 8:30am, and heading straight to our venue directly from there. We have a strict 11:30am ceremony start time, as our ceremony venue is a 1920’s restored house that we are using and the owner has a strict schedule we have to abide by for that day.
My question is, would you keep everything in your own fridge and pickup along the way, or take it all with you to store wherever you go?
My wedding party is just my MOH and his Best Man, and my MOH will be with me the whole morning for hair and makeup. Neither one of them will have any floral anything, but my FH and myself.

I also made my florals from stuff with Trader Joe's, and I will say the flowers were more resilient than I expected! We bought/arranged them the night before, left them on my parent's kitchen table, and by the next evening, they were fine (and some of the flowers opened up even more!). This was in August in new england. So, to answer your question, especially since it doesn't sound as if you have anything too delicate, you can probably get away with doing whatever is most convenient for you - the flowers will survive, as long as you keep them in water. For the bouquet, if you plan on wrapping in ribbon, make sure you do that day of before the ceremony - it doesn't take long, and you don't want soggy ribbon. For the boutonnieres, we did a very quick set day of with like, the two blooms that fell off during transit, and we had another from the day before that we kept in a shotglass of water so it wouldn't die before we wrapped it, haha.

You shouldn't need to refrigerate them. I am using a website that sends you the flowers and instructions for the DIY, and they tell you not to refrigerate them. If you are worried about your specfic flowers and how they'll react, I reccommend doing a trial anyway. I did a trial run with one bouquet for myself and it lasted several days sitting on my counter.

    Cool!

Yeah I guess I could just keep them in water at our hair and makeup and wrap the ribbon in the car on the way since it’s a good 1/2 hour to the ceremony venue, and I can just put stuff in water at the salon.
Again it’s only one bouquet and one bout so I feel like timing would be okay? Everything is in the morning not evening, so my window is shorter.

Did you keep everything in water while sitting?

I literally just going to pick up flowers and bind them together, and the bout I’m just wanting to use a single floral.

I kept some in water and some weren't. But my bouquet is going to be literally just greenery and baby's breath, which are all very durable and long lasting. So I would really just test the kind of flowers you want to use. If you're picking them up straight from the store, they will be sitting in water there and if it is the day-of, they should be just fine. I love how stress-free that is going to be for you!

Yeah, you're definitely going to be fine. I will say, for the sake of your car, dump the water when transporting (or really, really pack them tight so they don't move) so that you don't accidentally spill any water in your car! Even though they have been sitting in a bucket at the store, my flowers in particular were wicked thirsty, so if you get them the day before, really really make sure to let them drink overnight!
