DIY bling shoes

Leanna, on April 18, 2013 at 12:48 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

I want to get the stuff for my shoes and I was wondering - How many crystals should I order. I know this will depend on the size but I am thinking 5mm 4mm and 7mm just to add a little dimension. I got a bag of 144 to do my friends veil and that doesn't seem anywhere enough. Anyone who has done their shoes before how many did you use, what size, and where did you get them?

I am looking for more of an average since every style is going to be difference. That will give me a starting point anyways. Thanks in advance ladies.

Also other than flat back crystals and E6000 glue what type of applicator should I use, reg tweezers or is there a tool that works better?

I did my shoes.. I would order 6000 - 2000 of 3mm, 2000 of 4mm and 2000 of 5mm. Yes absolutely use E6000.. and I just ended up using my fingers. I ordered my rhinestones from eBay.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh pretty!!!! did you mean 600-2000? Do you think fire mountain beads and gems is worth it? I looked at michaels and they seem expensive. I got the ones for my friend's veil at a c moore, 144 for $2.99. I haven't checked out hobby lobby yet

I mean six thousand.. lol... two thousand of each. You will be very surprised at how many it takes to cover the whole shoe. I would search online and find somewhere that you can buy in that large of quantities as buying at Micheals or other simliar stores that just sell in the smaller quantities will cost you a lot!! Ebay is a good place to take a look at. I was very happy with the quality of rhinestones that I bought and they were MUCH cheaper than buying at any of my local stores. If I remember correctly.. a package of 2000 from eBay was $8? The total cost was under $30 to do my shoes.

The shoes I do take about anywhere from 4000 to 10,000 per shoe, but i only use 2mm and 3mm crystals and pack them tightly together to fit the most amount of crystals for the most amount of sparkle! It also depends on the surface area of your shoe....if there's straps, it will take a lot more.

And i use this glue...it E 6000 but made especially for projects like this. Washer/dryer safe, waterproof and flexible yet still a permanent hold.

i use toothpicks to place the crystals. If u dip the toothpick in a tiny bit of glue and let it dry for a few seconds, it will remain sticky enough to pick up even the smallest crystal, yet still come off the crystal when it is placed on the shoe.

My colors are navy blue and purple so what I'm thinking about doing is on the outside of each shoe putting the wedding date and our initials in dark blue crystals :-) I'll do that first and then add clear crystals around it. OMG I am so excited to do this, I have 2 projects to do before these plus I could have the baby any day now so I'll wait just a little bit before starting it lol
