DIY bling cake topper vs buying - pic included

Lakeysha, on March 7, 2013 at 5:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I really want a blinged out letter B cake topper. All the ones I have found online were $25 and up. Does anyone know a place where I can get a nice blinded out letter B or how to make it myself? I'm really challenged when it comes to DIY so hopefully someone can suggest somewhere that's reasonable.

Thx!

You can get a simple metallic cake topper for about $15 online and then DIY bling. HOWEVER, if you want the bling to look nice, then unfortunately, it is expensive. I used generic Swarovski crystals that were leftover from my shoes in my pic. And to buy those crystals, well, they aren't cheap. Honestly, If you can find something pretty online for $25 then that may be a bargain. By the time you are done buying all of the pieces for the DIY, you will be well over $25. The secret to a nice DIY bling project is using varying size crystals. If they are all too big and/or the same size, they look cheap. Can you post a pic or link of the $25 one you found?

The pic attached is 29 plus shipping. Just figured it only cost about $10 to make it. It looks simple but I'm sure I would screw it up! Lol

Hobby Lobby during their wedding sale has them for 10 bucks. Just buy some rhinestones at Walmart for 4 bucks and glue them on Smiley smile

The pic is pretty nice. I guess it just depends on how you want it to look in the end. The letter with that type of bling in that pic for $29 is a reasonable price. The inexpensive rhinestones you can buy will certainly work but they won't have that sparkle to them and will look a little more flat. Its just up to you on how much bling you are looking to have!

I am trying to find one as well. I found one on weddingcuts.com but they want 40 dollars for a brushed metal cake topper that i then have to go spend probably 25 dollars or more on crystals and glue and by that time i have paid 80 dollars for a cake topper! Looking online i see some that are cheaper but look CHEAPER so i dunno what to do either. If i can find one at michaels in metal that is cheaper to cut cost i will do that and put more of my money into the quality of crystals. I agree on using different sized crystals but then how do you assemble them without it looking weird. is there any way you are supposed to put big to small crystals or do you just put them wherever.
