DIY aisle runner 1/2 done...opinions please! =)

Jen H., on October 17, 2011 at 3:34 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

Hey ladies! I have one side of the aisle runner done. I was inspired by Lalita, who did a fall leaves aisle runner. It is 18 feet long. I burned my fingers quite a few times with the hot glue, lol! Our colors are purple and orange, hence the spattering of purple flowers. Tell me what you think before I take on the other half!

I just started mine today... tried using fabric glue... FAIL!!! When you did yours did you put anything under the tulle so the glue didn't go through?

Thanks all! Supplies for this are pretty basic:

    -spool of tulle ($1-2)

    -bags of leaves ($1 each)

-couple strands of fall leaves w/ acorns & pine cones ($5 each, purchased w/ 50% off coupon)

-bag of Spanish moss (had on hand, maybe $2-4?)

    -hot glue (lots!)

I tried to pick leaves of varying sizes and shapes for more realism. I laid the tulle down on my crafting surface, I used scrap paper underneath. I put a few ample swipes of glue down and put a wad of Spanish moss down. While the glue is still warm, lift it off the scrap paper, and pull the strands of glue by twisting them around your fingers. The moss gives the runner some topography and your leaves won't all be flat.

Then you just pick the leaves and glue them. I tried to scatter the colors around, making it look random. Remember to pull the scrap paper off the tulle, when needed. The Spanish moss will get everywhere! You'll need to vacuum after.

I think that's everything, feel free to ask me questions

    Happy crafting!

Looks great. I think I like better than the fabric ones-- you could probably reuse it for something.. very pretty- great colors. My theme is butterflies-- maybe I could do my colors with a few butterflies???

Yeah definitely! FH said we should figure some way to incorporate it into the reception deco. I'm still puzzling on that one....maybe line the walk to the door of the hall, or put on the front of the head table?
