DIY airbrush make-up?

TexasBeThyFrontier, on June 26, 2014 at 3:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Has anyone done their own airbrush make-up?

I'm pretty good with my make-up (former pageant girl -- don't judge! It paid for 25% of school for me!) and have never really liked it when pros did my make-up in the past. I've basically told myself I want to do my own make-up for the big day, but I'm seriously considering investing in an airbrush kit to dial it up a notch.

I've been researching and it seems like TemptuPro is the best product, but it's recommended to go with non-make-up-specific equipment when it comes to the air compressor and airbrush, with the brand Iwata rising to the top.

Yay? Nay? Anyone have specific wedding or "real life" experience?

Bump before I fall into the abyss!

Otherwise, I might resort to this ... It's for the woman who only has four-fifths of a second to get ready! I'll have a lot more time for the first look, but FH might not stick around ...

I am doing this. My friend is really amazing with makeup (turned herself into edward scissorhands!) and is willing to do ours for the wedding. I am having her look into the machines and she is going to let me know which is best. I am going to buy it, and ship it to her and let her mess with it. As soon as I get some info, I will be glad to send it your way :-)

Im also considering this option.. I did my research and found that temptu, dinair and iwata to be top choices. But i went with Belletto Studios AirBrush system.. ive seen alot of reviews with this product and it had good reviews.. I found a promo code and was able to get it for a really good price. So even if it doesnt work out i wont loose too much..

I'm considering this option. But my only question is, do you have to buy all airbrush makeup (foundation + blush & eye shadow)? That's the part that seems could get kinda costly.

@FutureMrs.B, sounds good! THanks! FYI, I read this about Luminesse Air, which is a sticking point for a lot of pro make-up artists:

"[T]hough you can successfully use other brands of makeup with the Luminess systems, this may void the warranty so it is not recommended unless you’ve had it for over a year or are assured that there won’t be any warranty issues."

    http://www.airbrushmakeupsalon.com/airbrush-makeup-review-luminess-air/

"damage caused by misuse or use of cosmetics other than Luminess Air may void warranty."

@FutureMrsDean, I agree! I was thinking I would just want to do contouring, foundation, and blush with an airbrush, and then just use my normal make-up for eyes. I'm not sure if they play nicely together or not, though.

@FutureMrsDean. Most systems already come in bundles. Many for the most part ask you when ordering to pick the foundation category you fall in and you get 4 shades from that category. Also some come with blushes if not you can buy some for $10 or so which again airbrush goes a long way with just a few drops.

But with that said, ive been told by proffesionals that as long as your airbrush foundation sets you can use powdered products to finish( contour, blush highlight, ext.) So ill be trying both methods.. Also a tip i was given, if your going to do the airbrush foundation, conceal first and then airbrush.. as sometimes it can cake up.

Hope this helps, ive been researching alot since this is my route aswell.

I am impressed! My MUA had me close my eyes most of the time during the airbrush application. I have no idea how I would do that myself.

Hey, guys! Wanted to send you an update -- TemptuPRO is having a 25% off sale! I'm going to order make-up today, I think, and then get an IWATA compressor and brushes through Amazon, probably.

    http://temptu.com/pro/

Use promo code FANDF2014 at checkout. Offer valid 7/15/14 – 7/21/14 at 11:59 PM ET.

Alright, ladies! I bought the bridal starter kit with TemptuPro. I thought long and hard about the IWATA system with better ratings, but ...

    (1) it's pretty expensive for me just doing my makeup and my bridesmaids' makeup -- this isn't becoming a full-time gig or something.

    (2) the Temptu system is just a pound, so I can more easily travel with it. I might be flying or driving to the wedding, but either way, something lightweight is good.

The 25% off coupon also still worked today!

I'll let y'all know how it goes. I'll probably do a trial myself and grab two bridesmaids to see how I do with them.

Oh, I forgot -- this is the actual system.

I was able to get it for $318.75 with the FANDF2014 code.

Alright, ladies -- since I am BAM I am ready to report that the Temptu Pro Bridal Kit is amazing. If you're thinking about a DIY, this isn't a bad idea.

For myself, my bridesmaids (5), my mom and my nana: I used the Temptu system for foundation, blush, contouring, and covering up a BM's sunburn on her shoulder.

Due to limited getting-ready time and lack of practice (I seriously ran a test run the night before), I didn't use airbrushing for eyebrows or eye make-up (shadow or liner) -- I just used my normal make-up. I had eyelash extensions put on the day before, which looked great for pics but fell off quickly because I live in Texas and run with my pup every morning. Sweat and eyelash extensions are not friends!

S/B make-up is amazing. It lasts all day and didn't rub off. The bridesmaids also loved the buildable coverage -- some ladies wanted more finish, and others didn't want a ton of make-up and wanted freckles and such to shine through. I was able to keep both groups happy.

When I get pictures back, I'll post them!
