Distance from wedding event to reception

Carolyn, on July 15, 2019 at 12:55 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16
My fiancé and I are having a hard time trying to find a rental hall in our budget close to the beach we are having the ceremony. We found 3 but they are 29,35, & 45 min drives from the ceremony to the reception. How far is too far for guest to drive for the entire event?

I don't think that's far at all to drive Smiley smile I'd drive that. I've driven 1.5 hours before to a wedding

I drove 1.5 hours to the farthest wedding I have gone. However, if they are driving far to the ceremony then have to drive far to the reception that might not be the best option.

The general rule is that the reception should not be more than a 30 minutes' drive from the ceremony.

Thank you. I was feeling the drive between locations could be an issue.

I don’t think any of those are too far and I’d be ok traveling that far to the venue.

I'm going to a wedding next month where the reception is about 40 minutes from the ceremony. It's not a big deal. Personally, I like ceremonies and receptions in the same location. If I have to spend time waiting and then driving, what does it matter if it's 15 minutes away or 40? If you can go with one of the closer venues that would be great!

The 29-35 minute distances sound more than fine! It is what it is. Many people have church ceremonies then obviously have another venue for the reception! So long as the gap is just right to include travel time to get there and not much more then begin the cocktail hour when guests arrive!

My reception venue is ~50 minutes from my ceremony and I do feel a little bad but these were the two venues we liked and wanted to so we decided to do it anyways. I would be surprised if any of the people I'm inviting would let this be the reason they don't come, but maybe your friends/family are way different than mine.
Due to the distance we are planning on having our hotel blocks near the reception so guests won't have to drive far afterwards

A lot of this is know your crowd, older guests and guests with kids (at home or at the wedding) likely won't want to drive too far.
If the ceremony location isn't local to where you live then having a 30+ minute drive even further is a lot for some people, especially if you want a late night reception.
For me 30 minutes would probably be where I would start considering not going.

That’s a great idea to have the hotels close by.

Someone is always going to complain about every decision you make regarding a wedding, so don’t worry about them. I don’t think any of those would be too far. If they are going to skip the ceremony because of the drive to the reception hall, there is nothing you can do about that so no sense in stressing over it.
