Disposable Plates?

bitbit, on April 18, 2017 at 12:15 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 77

Is anyone using disposable plates and silverware? My caterer had a few options and I was surprised how nice they looked. I did a quick search online and saw some other nice ones. Just curious as to what everyone else is working with?

As long as they are sturdy enough to hold the food being put on them..doesnt matter to me.

I think it all depends on the formality level of the event

I'm using them for everything because is way cheaper and no worries about accidental breaks!

I'm using them, my caterer was the one who suggested them. On here they have said to try poshparty I think ??

I haven't compared all prices yet.

But I am going the nice plastic disposable route.

It depends on how formal your event is. If you're having a formal wedding I would go with fine china/regular tableware but if you're having a laid back wedding I think disposable plates are just fine.

@Mrs. Terakawa, the ones on posh party are really pretty! If I used those for an event at my house I would wash them and reuse them a few times, lol.

I'm using disposables but haven't ordered them yet. I've been eyeing webstaurantstore.com . They have inexpensive options and also eco friendly options. I'm leaning toward eco friendly but am worried they won't hold up well enough even though the reviews are decent. Anyway! The website has the best prices I've found so far. Shipping can get expensive though so factor that in with that site.

    Formal ballroom wedding? Nope.

    Casual rustic/beach wedding? Sure.

And they need to be the ones that look like ceramic/metal place settings. Clear plastic Chinet wouldn't work.

I think it's all in what you want. Our caterer is using china but then again I don't have to do the dishes! So if that's an option for you and they look good I would say go for it!

@LB, really?? Some of the disposable options look like real plates. The flowers are really important to me, plates not so much. Plates are pretty much just functional objects to me; they are going to be covered in food so I don't really care too much what they look like. We are still going with a relatively informal vibe; buffet style and casual state park venue. I think the disposable plates will be fine. Thanks for taking such an interest in my budgeting and wedding planning though!

This is one of those things I don't care about as a guest...Just as long as it sturdy enough :o Nothing worse they a bending/leaking plate n only 2 prongs left on your fork...

We will be using nicer disposable plates, but disposable for sure. Our wedding is also in a barn in June and we're serving BBQ pork, so it definitely fits the formality of the event.

I'm with @LB. If I was sitting there with a floral chandelier over my head and had to eat with a fucking plastic fork, I'd side-eye the shit out of you.

    You're welcome dear.

You might want to take a look at your priorities vs the experience of your guests. js.

@flighty, I think we are going to only have floral chandeliers over the dance floor so you wouldn't have to worry about that

I plan on using them but I am having a very casual rustic barn wedding, if you're going for more formal I would get real China/silverware

@Heather L thanks so much for the insider info! I was thinking of having them ship to my venue but I'd have to clear it with them and I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that yet either. Are the cups and silverware decent?
