Disney World Wedding Planning

Tiffany, on August 11, 2011 at 4:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

My fiance' and I recently got engaged and are planning a WDW Wedding. I've looked on many forums for information (and pricing) but many fall short. So this is my attempt to help others who are thinking of having their wedding at WDW.

We have already talked to a wedding coordinator and reserved our date, time, and venues. The soonest you can reserve a date is 16 months before your actual wedding date. My advice is the sooner the better and ask questions. We actually had to change our wedding date because Disney's minimum tripled in price during the month of December to $30,000. So call and make sure the date you want is during an off season. We switched to the month of November and the minimum is $12,000 for the Wishes Collection.

During the 4 months prior to your year mark you will be dealing with a Disney Wedding Coordinator.(You will not receive a Wedding Planner till a year before your wedding) They will e-mail you lots of information which I will post later on.

I briefly thought about doing a WDW wedding, but then I saw the prices. :/ Too much of a destination for me. However, I will be attending a WDW as a guest later this year, so I'm looking forward to that.
How far along are you in your wedding plans?

Let me preface this by saying I have absolutely no affiliation with the Disney company...

If you are able to get in, don't miss the opportunity. Weddings are a very service-oriented experience, and no one does customer service like Disney. Whatever people pay, I have confidence they get every penny's worth from the experience. I actually model my own business on how they do whatever it takes to make the customer happy, and my couples can tell.

My wife and I are HUGE Disney fans. We honeymooned there (check out their registry options if you're honeymooning there too), we joined the Vacation Club there, and I even ran my first marathon there. We go there at least once a year, and we love it every time.

Be sure to check out the Disney Collection of Invitations by Carlson Craft. You can find a dealer in your area, or shop online at www.carlsoncraft.com. Here are just a few of my favorites!

I'd always wondered about WDW but always assumed that they were ridiculously expensive (and 30k is not surprising to me at all). But 12k is not far off of my own budget here in Massachusetts. Thanks for the info!

BTW: What exactly is "in season" for WDWs anyway? I figured winter was in season since it's not killer hot like in the summer.

    Good luck with the planning!

We are still in the early stages of planning. Our wedding isn't till next November but we wanted a sunset wedding at Disney Wedding Pavilion with a reception at The Living Seas Salon so we booked early. Even though we know it will be an expensive wedding we both can't imagine getting married anywhere else. Most of our family and friends already reside in the Orlando area and we both grew up around Disney so it made a perfect location for us.( Plus your paying for the experience and the service.)

They also have cheaper wedding options with the Escape packages but they only allow 20 guests including bride and groom and we have more family than that so we went with the Wishes option which allows you to have as many guests as you want.

Hopefully this link works. This shows you some of the meal plans that are available to choose from. You have choices ranging from plated dinners or buffet style to dessert parties. If you don't like something on the menu you prefer you can exchange it for something else. As always breakfast, brunch, and lunch receptions are cheaper than traditional dinner options.

Nicole: Usually the best time to deal with Disney World is during their off seasons. This usually begins about mid August and goes through May. There will be times during those months where they will have peak seasons due to holidays and breaks from schools and colleges. (For example October is an off season but will have peak weeks or weekends when they do their Disney Not So Scary Halloween) Just check Disney's holiday calendar and you can find out when all their special events are and you can go off that.

Even if your planning on getting married next year you can still base it off the special events of this year since they are done annually.

It depends on the "Date" I inquired about a Disney wedding back in April and my date was still available. We opted to do something local, so all our family and friends can join us.

My dream has always been to get married at disney! I wish we could but we have too many people that wouldn't be able to able to make the wedding if we got married down there, we are doing a Disney land and sea package for our honey moon but to get married there would be my dream. Hmmm perhaps a vow renewal for our 5 year anniversary?

I usually lurk on these boards, but check out the PassPorter's guide, it's writen by a former Disney Bride. http://www.passporter.com/weddings.asp

Also there's the DIS Boards, which is a fan community forum that has a specific wedding & honeymoon sub forum: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55

I'm a huge Disney fan, but everyone predicted that we'd get married there, which took the fun out of it.

This link will take you to their bar packages and pricing. We are opting to do the call wines, beer, and liquor since it's only a $16 price difference from just soda and juice. (Plus we want bubbly to celebrate!)

This link is for Disney's Photography and Videography page. Caution they are ridiculously overpriced. Six hour coverage of photography starts at $2,600. Which I believe to be absurd so we will be using an outside photographer.

*Warning any events done inside the park will not allow you to use an outside photographer, you will have to use a Disney photographer if you want professional photos at your wedding/reception sites. And no matter how much you plead the answer will still be no. I tried....so to get around it we are having our photographer shoot the ceremony only. Because I'm not paying a stupid amount for someone to go click and only give me a few photos...sorry about that rant....*

We will be doing our reception at The Living Seas Salon. I was working on seating assignments and was getting frustrated because I couldn't find any information on table/seating arrangements inside the salon. I tried to look at pictures but that was incredibly hard as well. Finally I just broke down and asked our wedding coordinator.

Most tables are round and seat six. There are two rectangular tables that also seat six. These tables together seat 84 guests total. When there are more than 84 guests in this location they add two traditional 70in rounds of 10 and this takes us to 104 max. For this location there are limited options for a head table without impacting the number of guests that it can accommodate. If you want a head table they would use the two rectangular tables and push them together. In this case you would no longer use them for 12 guests, the two tables could seat 4-6 ppl only. You can also opt for a sweetheart table for just the couple.

We decided to do the sweetheart table since the two tables pushed together would not be able to accommodate our whole wedding party. We asked if we could have the sweetheart table set up near one of the aquarium walls and they said it shouldn't be a problem Smiley smile yay!

    Hey there,

eMail me and I'll send you (no strings) the 9000 word review I just finished about our wedding at WDW last year. Honestly, I can't think of anything we could have gotten more right than trusting these folks. It was super cool and worth every penny. We only spent $18,000 (yes, I know that's still a lot) and if I had it all to do over again I'd do it all the same way, maybe I'd also find the money for that cruise we still need to take...

We had 60 people including 3 kids at our wedding at WDW in 2010. We had about 35 including 7 kids at our Vow Renewal at WDW earlier this year. Both events were fantastic.
I’m at *******@***.*** if you want to eMail.
