Disney honeymoon?!

Jasmin, on February 28, 2018 at 4:35 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 26
So everyone my fiancé and I are getting married on our 5th year anniversary 08.18.18 and won’t be doing our honeymoon until this December. (We are doing a mini moon right after just a weekend thing :-) ) We decided on going to Disney world (it’ll be his first time going). We we wondering if anyone has gone there or knows someone that has for their honeymoon? We’ve been searching online and haven’t found any tips on pricing or much of what they offer. We’re trying to figure out if the honeymoon package is a good deal or are we better off getting regular passes? I honestly don’t want to spend more than what I should. Like I assume for a honeymoon package they do a hotel/restaurant deal thing. But we aren’t interested in that. Anyways any info will help. Thanks!

We're going for our honeymoon 5-5-18. We booked with a Disney travel agent and she got us the best deal. We're doing Disney Resort, Deluxe Dining and 7 Day Park hopper passes(one day at Universal).

We are doing Disney in August for our honeymoon. We to booked using a travel agent which could get us the best deals. When you arrive just make sure you tell them your on your honeymoon so you get a pin. You'll get perks in the parks Smiley smile

Mid-December is the best time to go. Use the app to check wait times constantly, and buy your passes ASAP! It depends on what kind of hotel you want, if you want a Disney resort, they're expensive but really nice. I stayed at a hotel a few miles away and it was really low quality, but also only like $40 a night, soooo. I have the Disney castle tattooed on my ribs lol

Definitely go through a travel agent. There's no harm in shopping on your own but theres no harm in using an agent either, and they are free to you. I'm sure they'll find you better deals on flights/accommodations/ and park tickets than you could find in a package online. I know the agent we are using for our honeymoon often books Disney vacations for people and gets exclusive offers through being a member of the "Disney travel" thing through her job.

We really don’t mind not staying there! (And don’t mind not going to fancy restaurants) My grandma lives super close by so we were thinking about staying with her to one save money and also spend time with her. We think probably a few days there? Since he hasn’t ever been there. So like the safari and everything else will take time to go through them. So agents are best? Do they offer without hotel etc

So FH & I just booked our Disney honeymoon for October of this year!! I would highly recommend using a Disney travel agent. And I don't know if this is the case with all of them, but with the agency we went through, there is no charge to use them! I tried planning it on my own and almost had a mental breakdown because there is just so much to it. We only had to put a small deposit down, and then they keep an eye out for discounts, promotions, anything that will save you money! & they are involved as much as you want them to be. For instance, I gave my agent full access to my My Disney Experience account (which BTW, download the app, has TONS of useful info on it!) so she will be setting up all of our dinner reservations and fast passes. But if you want to just get the savings and do the planning yourself, it's still so worth it! I'm sure there's other agencies out there, but I was just so happy to find out about it, as this my first official Disney trip as well! There's so much to learn. We are staying at Port Orleans- Riverside because it basically eliminates the need of a rental car (unless you want to travel off Disney property, of course) and it's a super cute resort that has a romantic bayou feel to it for a good price! I have been binge-watching vlogger videos on Disneyworld so if you need any advice, I'd love to help! Smiley smile

P.S. booking with the travel agent versus booking through Disney directly saved about $600 in our case!

If you're only purchasing tickets and dining, then I would book through Disney or a Disney-approved travel agent directly. I used to work at Disney World in Guest Relations and dealt with tickets a lot. You're not going to find any discounts outside of Disney that are legitimate aside from if you're a veteran, in a group, etc. They would also be able to give you the most up-to-date information on their packages and how to customize them. They can definitely assist you without purchasing a hotel stay.

I’m not going to Disney for my honeymoon, but FH and I went together last January (we got engaged there actually!)

The one big downside of not staying in a Disney hotel is that you don’t get to pick your fast passes as early as people staying in the property. Also, depending on where you’re traveling from, staying on the property eliminates the need for a rental car to get to and from the parks (do they make you pay for parking? I’ve never had to drive, so I’m not sure.) Another benefit of staying on the property is that there are certain days when certain parks open early or stay open late only for guests staying with Disney. Just a couple things to think about!

We thought about going to disneyland for our honeymoon, but decided that we would rather go out of the country, somewhere tropical where we can relax.

HOWEVER, we both agreed that we have to go within 1 year of getting married because we are both literally obsessed with disneyland.

We went to Disney World for our honeymoon last October and it was wonderful! We went through a Disney travel planner and would do it no other way! She was so helpful and made sure everything was taken care of. We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside which I highly recommend. It's a moderate resort but super romantic. I've stayed off property as well and it doesn't even compare to staying on site. We did the dining plan and were so happy we did. Figuring in how pricey our dinners were it was definitely worth it for us. And the convienince is the best part! Make sure to get your happily ever after pin from the desk or in the parks. They scored us free drinks, fast passes, awesome reserved firework seating, and lots of nice congratulations. However you do it you'll have an amazing time!

My fiancé and I are going to Disney with some friends for a day right after the wedding as a mini-moon. We both grew up in Florida, and I’ve been enough times that we don’t have a problem doing both Magic Kingdom and EPCOT in one day. Since your FH hasn’t been before, I do recommend you take some more time.
I don’t personally see the need to stay at a Disney hotel. It can be nice, and there are some advantages (free parking, Magic Bands, and Extra Magic Hours). But the full Disney experience is more apparent at the very expensive hotels. Also, I find little difference in the Fastpass availability between 30 and 60 days out. The only ride for which I can never find a Fastpass 30 days out (Seven Dwarfs Mine) is still difficult to get 60 days in advance. The last time I stayed at a hotel, I booked my fastpasses at 10 AM EST on the 60 day mark. Already, the only time available for that ride was in the evening.
Just a reminder: because of the holidays, Disney gets increasingly more crowded the later you go in December. Early December is your best chance if you are set on that month. Disney has started making Park ticket prices based on demand. You can look on their fare calendar to see when it is low-demand, average, or peak fare (and therefore crowdedness).
Disney’s website is very easy to manage and book on. There are the options of packages with hotels and dining plans. I admit I’ve never done a dining plan myself, but my calculations have shown it is more cost effective to pay for your own meals unless you want to go to the very nice restaurants or foresee yourself wanting at least one snack per day. And if you want to do any restaurants with character dining- especially the princesses (Askerhaus, Cinderella’s Royal Table...), you should try making reservations as far ahead as possible. Reservations become available 180 days in advance.
I hope my insight helps a little, and I really hope you have a great time.

We are doing our minimoon at Disney after our wedding in October. We went through an agent as well. The pricing through the agent was actually the same as if I booked myself but not worrying about the hassle was nice. They also keep an eye out for promotions and will lower our price if anything comes up. The honeymoon packages are not worth it (words out of my agents mouth). It’s a lot of extra money for things people generally don’t care about. The perks of staying on site like the extended hours, not paying for parking and doing the quick service dining plan made us choose to stay onsite. Originally we were going to do an air bnb bc it’s much cheaper. Also as far as the dining plan, the quick service is the cheapest and or agent told us how to milk it. For example, you get snack allotments. But if you go to certain places you can get nachos and load it up with toppings and that’s a full lunch, yet you don’t even have to use your meal ticket, just the snack!

    Everything she said!

Someone else asked if you have to pay for parking if you're not staying at the resorts and the answer is YES. Disney is now more than $20 a day to park. Just something to keep in mind as well, OP.

My FH & I are almost having an identical stay to you then! We're going Oct 8-14th and staying at Riverside as well! Was the dining plan totally worth it? We're still deciding on that.

Being around that many kids just isn't my idea of fun, but lots of people do it. I'd avoid the weeks that schools are out on break, as it will be extra crowded, but if you go during a non-peak time it could be ok. Are there, like FB groups of Disney fans that could give you the best advice on all things Disney?

We loved the dining plan! Our Disney planner made all of the reservations we wanted and we planned our days around that. It felt kinda crazy to plan our day around food but it helped too. It was so nice to not have to look at prices when we were deciding what we wanted to eat. Normally we wouldn't care on a special occasion but some of the restaurants can be pretty pricey. Before the dining plan most of our dinners were $80-90 for the two of us. Some more and some less but that almost paid for the plan alone. We really enjoyed the snack credits for cold drinks and treats as it's still very hot that time of year. It was also super fun to just scan your magic and and have food paid for. We rarely had cash or a card on us. It was our first time using the dining plan and we will probably always get it now! It's a lot of food but you do walk a ton so you're going to be hungry. Congrats! I'm sure you guys will have a blast!

We did Disney World for our honeymoon in mid January, which is Disney's slowest time. Just as an fyi, be careful going in December because of the holiday parties- things can get more expensive and it's harder to get reservations. Also, I would definitely recommend staying at the Disney resorts- you can book fast passes earlier, don't have to pay for parking and get access to the extra magic hours. If you don't have a room with a kitchen, it's also definitely worth looking at a dining plan-especially because they now include alcohol! (We booked through Disney vacation club and stayed at DVC resorts- Animal kingdom Lodge and Bay lake- so we had a kitchen or kitchenette the whole time.)
Also, for your honeymoon, I wouldn't stay with family. Any other time, sure, but not for a honeymoon. Oh, also if you stay at a Disney hotel they'll give you buttons to wear in the parks that let cast members know you're celebrating. Disney encourages their cast members to go above and beyond to help make things magical- so those buttons are definitely worth it!

A Disneyworld honeymoon was my absolute IDEAL but the more hyped I got to plan it, the more I noticed my FH wanting to go somewhere that met both of our interest levels and hobbies, so we went with an adults-only, all-inclusive resort in the DR. Definitely going to Disneyworld before we have kids though! Hope you have a magical time!!! 💖
