What should we do to honor his mom?

Kelsey, on December 18, 2013 at 2:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 30

Fh lost his mom a couple years ago at Easter, and I know how missed she is. FH was super close to his mom. I would like to do something special in remembrance of her, but I don't even know where to start. Any of my WW ladies have any ideas that I can suggest to FH?

I lost my mom when I was 18. FH has lost three cousins who died before they were 25. We will have a table that has a place for all of them with their picture. It will include DOB and DOD with a small blurb about them

We are going to have a candle lit in memory of those people w flowers by it. also my friend's mom just passed on Thanksgiving and in May they are planning on doing a brief slideshowand including pictures of her with a quote. it has been so resent they don't want to bring the celebratory feeling down but have a moment in memory of her.

Ask him what he wants. My parents are dead, and if my FH did something without telling me, I would be upset. I'm still very emotional about it and seeing something in memoria might throw me in a bad way. My sister and other family want me to do specific things, but I don't want those things yet.

There is a time and a place for public memorials and depending on how he feels the wedding may not be the place. We did something very private and only a few people knew the signficance of it. The daisies in my bouquet were for my mother since they were her favorite flower. It was private.

I also had the most wonderful experience right before the wedding. I was standing in the back on the stairs waiting to come up to enter and out of no where there was little breeze that ruffled the small hairs that had escaped my hairdo. And then a single daisy floated to the ground out of the bouquet, almost as if it had been plucked. I picked it up intending to tuck in back in but could not find where it fell from. I laid it on the bannister but it was gone when we came back down the aisle.

I like the idea of incorporating things that mean something to her into the wedding, Mrs. Drakthal. i'll have to see if FH likes that too.

DH and I decided to place a huge flower arrangement on the altar in memory of his parents. It was later moved to the reception where there was a sign stating why it was there. I was glad he agreed to remembering them in that way because photos and empty chairs for the deceased are just not my thing.

I would have done it if that's what he wanted, but I'm glad he didn't.

    A wife on here, Tee

she did a candle light ceremony with her mom's picture on a table with two candles and her and DH each lit a candle. She has pictures of it on my forum. https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/for-the-ladies-who-are-already-married/dfd70e8718ea8be1.html on page like 4 or 5. It is really touching and beautiful. You could even have one of her favorite songs playing while you two do it.

My FH lost his mom when he was young. We're unsure of what we will do in remembrance for her. One Idea I'm hoping is for him to dance with his sisters to her favourite song.. Would be a nice touch.

My DH lost his parents and to honor them, we had two empty chairs in the front row during the ceremony with a flower for each one. It was understated, but made it clear that their presence was felt and missed.

During the formals, Paul's brother held the flowers representing his parents.

We are doing Memorial Chairs like in the 1st photo...unless the framing becomes too expensive...then we will do something similar to the 2nd photo. We are definitely using the "We know you'd be here today, if Heaven weren't so far away" poem. =)

Here is also a photo of how to incorporate them into your bouquet, or, since it is his mom, from his boutonniere. =)

My dad passed away last year. I am also doing the memorial chair for him in the front where he would have been sitting. I have purchased a small picture frame that Kat showed in the picture for my bouquet. I will also have a candle sitting on the table with the book and cardbox that will have a poem on it and say in memory of my dads name. I don't want to go to overboard to where me or any other family member might get to upset but I want him to be acknowledged.

My fiance's dad passed away last year. I am doing this:

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/93688823/paper-flower-grooms-boutonniere-5?ref=shop_home_active&show_panel=true

But getting it made with a picture of him and his dad.

The flower on the chair idea is a good idea too. I may do that as well
