Wedding Favor... houseplant seedling???

I know bamboo is really expensive so that's something to think about. I've seen a lot of people do succulents because they're somewhat cheaper and easy to take care of. Just make sure you don't have many traveling guests.

Seeds of bamboo are not expensive (maybe 10 or 15 bucks for 100??) ... growing succulents from seed may be a little difficult not sure never tried. there's going to be quite a few out of towners but like I said I will have other stuff. just thought the idea was kinda cute

Im not a plant person.....so.....i dont like plants! BUUUUTTTTT I do like the idea of Bamboo. I actually have a few of those lucky Bamboo plants (omg i do have plants!). I like them because i dont have to really do much and im not allergic to those and they dont attract bees! Well i dont think i was much help......

Aw, that is definitely a cute idea! And since you will have other gifts too I think you'll be fine. I really like how it is something you and your fiancé will be doing together.

That's a cool idea. A frwind printed their invitations on plantable paper so guest could plant it post wedding. They also gave away succulents the day of.

Great idea! We are thinking of.using succulants as favors but not growing them ourselves

I like it! I tried growing succulents for the favors for my wedding, and although I only got about 12 big enough to give away I loved the whole process. Whenever I would get stressed with other aspects of wedding planning I would go to my little succulent babies and sprinkle them with water (& love). Btw, you can grow succulents by just ripping the leaves off of other succulents and placing them on top of soil- a new little plant will grow from the leaf! Takes a while for them to get big though (I have a lot of little babies) but you have time!

Although I think it's a cute idea (and it's already been done a million times) I wouldn't want to figure out how to travel with a plant. I know you said you'd have other options, but who's to say that there will be enough options left for those who have to travel? I would stick to 1 type of wedding favor.

Plants was on my list of possibilities, I think it's a great idea. I also like the idea of giving pine tree seedlings for the purpose of planting a tree. You could do one per person or family. I think it would be a fun thing for families to do together.

I am planning on giving succulents in glass votive holders purchased from Ikea. They are .99 for 4. I am also planning on giving mason jars with the guests names written on them with one of those lids with the straw hole. These will also be their glass for the evening. Which eliminates the need for renting glasses and/or using the dreaded "red solo cup" which creates waste. Good Luck. And personally, a plant as a gift is better than a bag of jordan almonds. I would rather give something someone can use, or repurpose than toss. As you said not everyone will take one and you will be left with the remaining ones but since you like plants, that's not entirely a bad thing.

I love the idea of plants, especially if you're having a nature-inspired wedding. I've read on various sites that they're a bad idea because most people won't take them, or they won't plant seeds or anything, but personally, I would love getting something like that - it would be a nice way to think of the couple every time I watered it, or passed by it.

I think it's cute however I have never been to a local wedding, I always have to fly. So I don't think I'd be able to take one (especially with the agriculture restrictions flying home to Hawaii). Seeds would maybe be better, but I'm not sure if I'd actually plant them. If you don't have any guests flying in that might work. Also think of your entire guest list, I'm pretty sure my FH really wouldn't care having a plant and I'm guessing people would only take one per couple if that. You could do some and then do something like an edible gift that has enough for everyone.

For instance, we're giving everyone cookies as a favor. However my FH is a photographer so we tried to pick a variety of pictures he has taken and print them as 8x10s for people to take and hang wherever they want. When we showed my dad there were a few he picked out and said he wanted, so that's how we knew most people would like them but I know not everyone will want one so that's why we have the cookies too.

Normally I'm not really for seeds, etc. because nobody really goes home and plants them. Since you're having a nature themed wedding, I think it's cute though. Especially if you do some of the ideas above and not the typical "Plant seeds of love" or something equally as cheesy on the pouch of seeds.
