Spinoff: what do you LEAST look forward to at a wedding?

L&G, on March 7, 2015 at 8:48 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 41

For me I am always apprehensive about the food since most weddings have mediocre food haha. What is your least favourite thing?

Long ceremonies. Having to sit through a 1.5 hour ceremony is tough. I will do it because I care about my friends, but I just do not like them, personally.

Ditto to Katherine V below me. It is always just a priest talking about the wife being submissive and the husband controls the house and the wife shouldn't speak without his permission. I forget I'm at a wedding. Even our religious friends got uncomfortable at some of those long, overly bible specific (not relating to the couple at all) ceremonies.

Overly religious ceremonies that only the couple can relate to and are so impersonal.

Speeches! (That's why we're not having any at our wedding) and a long ceremony (anything over 30min and I'm ready to sleep)

ETA - and the garter/bouquet tosses! I get uncomfortable watching the groom dig up into the brides dress to pull the garter out and I hate participating in bouquet tosses (good time to run and hide in the bathroom for a minute, haha)

Speeches for sure... them to be 5 mins max, and I don't want to make a speech. lol

Making FH speak at the wedding, and I will stand with him - maybe say a few words...probably say more at the rehearsal dinner.

I'm not looking forward to the speeches. FH wants all 6 groomsmen to say something short, 30 seconds. Which isnt a lot but if its thats short, why bother. And I'm like Whhhyyy?? I have time to talk him out of it, so hopefully I can.

(cue the mighty mouse theme song) "Here I am to save the day!!!"

    ahem. sorry.

I hate long ceremonies too. Which is why I don't do them. I hate lots of speeches, I REALLY hate cheesy DJ's, intrusive video people and anyone who's late.

I don't like the sound of glass clinking, so I'm not a fan of everyone clinking their glasses to get the couple to kiss.

I hate those overly sexual group dance numbers.... I saw one in YouTube where the BP and the bride pretty much stripped and the bride gave the groom a lap dance pretty much... Time and place. I also hate choreographed group dances as a whole at weddings. I like some simplicity: food, drink, party.

Long ceremonies and awkward speeches. I was at a wedding recently where both the bride's father and the best man spent far too long discussing the bride and groom's (former) financial difficulties and health issues. I was embarrassed for them.

Being stuck at a table with a bunch of people I don't know. Twice DH was a groomsman. Both times, the couple had a headtable, so he was there, and both times, for Some Inane Reason, instead of seating the SOs with other people they might know (obviously these were close friends-- I knew lots of people there), they seated all the SOs together, even though we didn't know each other at all. How annoying! Thank goodness the dancing last longer than the dinner!

I am a really picky eater so food is a big one for me. I hate when a wedding is more than 10 or 15 minutes late. I dislike a long cocktail hour (especially if it is extended because the bride and groom want to keep taking pictures). I don't like the garter and bouquet toss (for 2 reasons. The first is no one needs to see the groom remove the garter. The second is the "forceful" participate of single people. Not everyone wants to participate but generally someone tries to "convince" the person to take part in it).

I'll second the cheesy dj part! Wedding karaoke drives me crazy (I have seen it more than one time!) That awkward garter toss, the ymca, chicken dance and electric slide. Can't stand them! Just call me a fun hater.....lol Smiley smile

Edited because I'm not quite sure how a random link got posted at the end. Oops! Lol.

I am not a fan of long ceremonies and bouquet tosses were kind of awkward for me.

I also attended a wedding that had a lot of party/ get to know everyone kind of games and it was rather awkward.
