Spinoff: Married ladies how long did it take you to accept your new last name

I haven't legally changed mine yet because I'm waiting until after our honeymoon in January to make sure we don't have any passport issues. I'm going by DH's last name, it's just not on paper yet. It's super weird and I have no idea how to even begin signing my name with his last name. It'll definitely be an adjustment!

I've only changed my name for 3 weeks or so (so it took me 10 months to actually change it lol). I still sign my old one but verbally, I haven't messed it up once lol.

ETA: I mean, I still accidentally sign my old one....rather the first letter of my last becomes a weird looking R for my new last name lol.

I still have a lot of stuff with my maiden name (credit cards, work, health, passport) because i haven't gotten around to changing all that stuff. 41 years of paperwork to change is a huge PITA. Signing my new married name is weird.

I honestly did practice signing my new name. I have a thing where I need my signature to be neat. If anyone forged it, I would know because I sign very distinctively. I love it because my first and last initial are the same! My prior last name was 11 letters long and hard to say. I loved it because of my family, but I do like getting mail addressed to the "Smiths" or Mr and Mrs :-)

Still working on it. I signed a receipt as "Elizabeth S" instead of "Elizabeth C" yesterday. I sat there and looked at it and then asked the cashier what to do if I signed the wrong name. They gave me a look like "Are you telling me you're using someone else's cc/FRAUD!?" ha.

Then I got home and my name was tagged with DH's and BIL's. It's the first time I've seen my name lined up with theirs and to see all of our last name as the same... weird.

I was so happy to change my name because I didn't have a connection to my maiden name and was excited to take DH's name (I changed it in the beginning of November), but now that I've changed it... I feel a little lost as well and pangs of regret. I know I made the right decision. It's just weird still... I've been wondering how long it took before I became Elizabeth C to myself instead of Elizabeth S.

I'm also still getting tons of mail with my maiden name because I still need to change my mortgage and one of my bank accounts.

I still haven't changed my name. No telling when I will get around to it! haha

I am actually excited to change my last name as my current last name is my birth dad's whom I never talked for more than 15 years

I did get used to signing my full name but I still have to think about initialing things sometimes haha

Legally, I completed the process Monday. Mentally, I'm still getting used to it. I have to pause and think about my signature, but I give my married name proudly when asked. I wasn't overly sentimental about my maiden name..

I still have to remind myself to sign my married name. The other day I had to sign for a package and started signing my maiden name then mid-signature signed my married name. The poor Fed-Ex guy couldn't even make it out.

I'm still not completely used to my new last name....Which reminds me i haven't changed it with my car loan or registration OOPS!

Well I just changed it at work after over a year so I'm guessing it will feel more real now? lol

I changed it right away and I think I only messed up once on signing. As far as "feeling" my last name--that has taken more time. DH's family has been wonderful and welcoming from the start, but it has definitely taken me a while to feel like "I act like a _____". After almost 14 months of marriage, probably in the past 4 I have started to feel like I identify with the name and what it means.

I think I'm accepting it well at this point. I changed it at work and the first few weeks were strange but it seems pretty natural now. I've also been doing a ton of medical stuff lately with all new docs and all of that is in my married so I feel like I'm using it quite a bit which helps.

I'm past the point of signing the wrong name for the most part now, and I can introduce myself with the right name too! I changed my name about a year after my wedding, so it's been about a year and a half.

My health insurance is still through my dad, so it's under my maiden name because he would have to change it through work. I had to fill out a bunch of medical paperwork for a new doctor with my maiden name and then stopped by a store on the way home and had to sign the receipt with my married name. THAT was confusing.

I changed my name at work but I was too lazy to deal with changing my email because then you have to set up all these forwarding emails and stuff haha. So I just confuse people instead and have to spell out my email for them

Much like my name and date twin Kristen H, I haven't been able to legally get it changed yet. I refer to myself as Mrs. Reilly. It's still a bit strange, and the first time someone called me Mrs. Reilly, I was thrown lol

I haven't legally changed it yet, but I signed a fedex commercial invoice the other day. there are 4 pages, each need a signature and I signed 3 with my married name and one with my maiden name. I had to keep one, so in order to not look like an idiot, I kept the oddball haha.

I also got a call on our work machine referring to me as my married name, it was weird

I think I'm in the transition phase where I'm used to my married name but it doesn't feel like "me" still.
