NWR: Texans I have questions

FutureMrsWallace, on May 5, 2016 at 3:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 67

After FH and I are wed, we are going to relocate to Texas to get the hell out of California. I have been doing a lot of research of different towns in TX. I hear most Californians move to Austin. There doesn't seem to be a lot of work for us in that area. We are in the aviation/aerospace industry and a lot of those companies are in Dallas-Fort Worth area. I like Waco but there is just not as much work and I am not willing to commute two hours one way. Online isn't going to tell me what towns in Fort-Worth are the run down bad areas...other than crime rate. What towns in Fort worth area do you recommend?

Frisco,Carrollton, Denton, Flower mound, Plano...parts of Dallas like lower greenville, Bishop Arts District, Preston Hollow are nice. Also parts if fort worth are nice. It really depends on your budget and what your looking for in a city.

We were heavily looking into Arlington. What are your thoughts on the area? I was searching Plano for a while to... Dallas seemed a little more expensive but I could be looking in the wrong areas... We are looking to buy. Budget is like 200k

I haven't lived there in over 10 years so I can't speak to current housing areas, but I'm originally from Fort Worth and love it! I grew up on the south side, close to Crowley. Crowley's kind of run down and stagnant though Burleson seems to have grown a lot in recent years.

I currently live in Oklahoma, but I lived in the DFW for all my life until a year ago! I lived in Arlington, TX and I loved it! Anywhere in those surrounding areas is great, but if you want closer to Ft Worth then North Richland Hills, Hurst, Bedford are close by and a good area. If you want a little slower and a tad more country then Saginaw and Watuga are cute cities. If I move back to Texas (which I miss terribly) I'd like to stay in the Burleson or Midlothian area! There's a lot to choose from, I would just personally stay away from Oak Cliff. Each city has it's run down parts, but are overall great places to live Smiley smile Hope this helped!

For 200k in DFW you probably won't be a great area, though I'm not Realtor or anything. I just know that DFW is expensive, and the pretension level is Dallas is SKY high.

I honestly recommend Houston over Dallas if you have work there.

    Austin is overcroweded now.

@FutureMrsWallace Just saw your Arlington comment, it's a great place to live, I was there for 20 years (and I'm 22). I grew up in North Arlington and it is great. Very close to shopping, not far from Rangers or ATT Stadium, but enough out of the way that the traffic won't kill you when games are going on

I grow up in Arlington and regularlly visit my dad. North Arlington is a nicer area than South. Just be careful with the area, traffic can get a bit busy on game days due to the Cowboy and Rangers statiums located there.

Northern Arlington housing prices seem to be in our price range but then again just because the housing track looks nice doesn't mean it's a nice area. That's how most places are where I am. Nice house but bad area. We don't need brand new, just updated! We will be flying out that way to shop before we move (obviously) I just wanted locals opinions to know what to expect

Do you and your FH have jobs lined up? It'd probably be best to rent while you get acquainted with the area and figure out where you like best and figure out where you'll be working.

I live in Houston, but everyone from California hates Houston. Its not the outdoorsy place. Austin for sure is your best bet for that. I like Dallas better than Houston, but I heard most ppl from Cali don't like Dallas. Is there a reason you are moving to Texas?

You can find plenty in the Northwest Texas area for $200k or under. Stay away from the Arlington area, it's becoming more and more crime ridden as it grows, as are some areas in Urban Dallas and Fort Worth. Stay on the outskirts of the city. Aledo, Weatherford, Keller, Southlake, Colleyville, Burleson, Roanoke, Saginaw, Watagua, North Richland Hills, Addison, Plano, Frisco, and grapevine are all great places to look into. I grew up in Fort Worth and love the Fort Worth area.

FFW where do I start??!! A price of crap 2 bedroom house with no yard is $500K, we have to rent and need at least 2 bedrooms because of the kids and those start at $2k a month. There is no rent control. 10% income tax and and only get like 1% back. That's just a couple reasons lol

ETA: for the record I'm exaggerating about state income tax. But you get the picture lol not over exaggerating about housing though

Yeah, I'm in the "nobody cares" part of the state, even though they should care! Our home was 160k in a nice neighborhood. Plus, I hate all the traffic! It's okay for a weekend trip, but everyday?! How do you do that!

You can find a nice house in Plano for under 200k?

Considering most of the Dallas Cowboys live there, I call totally and utter bullshit.
