NWR: Teacher's Gift for End of School Year

You could get her a Willow Tree angel from Hallmark - they have one that is "Love of Learning". I'm a teacher & I have that sitting on my desk...

As a teacher, I love gift cards. Even $5 to Starbucks (or Target or the bookstore that hasn't yet gone out of business) is better than any tchotchke.

Brian-I'm going to put the gift from my son.

My daughter gave her teacher a handwritten card & we gave him a gift card to his fav. restaurant.

I agree with Mary. Teachers get a lot of stuff, and then they have to figure out where to store it. A gift card to Starbucks or Target would be better - especially Target since teachers often wind up paying out of pocket for things like art supplies.

But even better would be a note from you and your son, with a copy sent to the principal.

I'll be honest: When I get "stuff," (lotion, windchimes, candles, etc.) as gifts from students, I write the thank you note, and then drop off the gifts at the women's shelter. I have enough stuff already. Unless you really know the teacher, your gift might meet a similar fate.

A gift card helps me to choose something that I will really use and enjoy or provides a treat on the way to school (Starbucks) or for a special lunch (Panera). I leave the cards on their backings and think fondly of Susie or Bobby when I use them.

I was going to say exactly what Mary said. My sister is a teacher, and gets SO many candles, lotion, "#1 Teacher" apples, signs, flags, pens, picture frames.. anything you can think of. And after years of accumulating that stuff and having nowhere to put it, she ended up donating a lot of it.

She HAS however gotten giftcards to Starbucks, Texas Road House, A MASSAGE!, and other fun things like that and she's LOVED it. I think that's the way to go

I'm a teacher as well and starbucks gift cards or target are always appreciated. I have a ton of little nicknacks which are cute but always prefer the gift cards.

Jaque- I wrote letters to the teachers and seperate letters to the principals for my children's teachers. The letters to the teachers were thank you's for the hard work they put in through the year, but the letters to the principals were to inform the principal of all the extra stuff the teachers did. My daughter struggles with reading and her teacher not only tutored her twice a week for the entire last semester, but went out of her way to get specialists involved when they probably wouldn't have been until next year. I wanted to make sure that the principal knew just what an asset the teacher was to the school and to the district. The principal cried when she read my letter and then forwarded it on to nominate her for a teacher of the year award. ;0
