NHRA drag races right behind my venue on my wedding day! :(!!!

Mrs. Turner2B, on April 24, 2010 at 10:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

I just found out the drag races will be held at the Fairplex in Pomona right behind my venue and I'm freaking out. At first I thought it was Nascar so I wasn't too worried because they don't make as much noise as drag races..but then I checked and it is the NHRA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Smiley sad I'm having an outdoor ceremony....this could be very bad. Smiley sad

That sucks! Is there anyway to find out if they take an intermission? If not will they be there all day? Can you change the time if not?

Hmmm.... there has to be some sort of noise-proofing that they have, since there's a venue right next to them. Have you called the venue to ask them about it?

We are getting married on the start/finish line of a nascar track. We found out two weeks ago that they were having a driving shcool on the same day! I totally understand!

The venue says it will be fine that if anything, we have to wait until a race is over and then start because there are breaks in between but I saw the schedule and a race is supposed to start right at 3 30 when our cerenomy starts Smiley sad I can't move it back because we are doing it htat early so FH and I can take daylight pics after the ceremony and if I move it up, my reception will and super early.

Wow this IS a problem....I would be upset. I think this would justify changing venues if you are able to. Personally I wouldn't risk it.

I can't change the venue.....aside from this dragracing it is PERFECT....they allow outside catering without a permit, I've already paid them like 2K. I guess an option would be to move the ceremony indoors (reception is already indoors) but I really wanted an outdoor ceremony. Smiley sad

How long is your ceremony that you would lose daylight pics? Also, keep in mind that drag races are VERY short races so your ceremony won't get pushed that far. I would look into it more and get some questions answered.

My ceremony is supposed to start at 3:30pm and end at 4pm...so I can have an hour of pictures before it gets dark.

Yeah, but the drag races are only a couple of minutes each so I don't see it pushing your wedding very far. Maybe 5-10 minutes? I would be more worried about it interrupting the middle of your ceremony b/c I think there's 10 minutes between each race. I used to go to those things.

@Cathasach? FH has turned into groomzilla at the mention of this news. He says you can hear them a city away!! He's stressing me out.
